if you don't have an MA race licence, you won't have the MoM's (Manual of Motorcycle sport)
all relevant info is in this book, regarding rules for all classes of bikes, number sizing/placement, to what mods can be done/allowed, etc etc.
So with the new bike, and hopefully getting into some racing next year at some point I want to sort out a race number, while the tax deduction stickers go on. Looking on MNSW I can see how to apply /buy, but doesn't the backing colour needed to be a certain colour depending on class / grade? I cant find any info on number size or placement either??? I believe thats in the supp regs for each race?
Is there an easy link to this info or can someone point me in the right direction.
Also I read back in an old thread (and have seen in a few vids) that guys have there nick name on the screen, is this common? I'll prob wait till I actually enter a race to go that far.
Fyi 46 was available then I realised what people might think, I thought, of my self lol. But are there any number to stay away from, you know respectfully left in retirement by all?
Long winded post again.... Cheers Luke

Ahh ok, I've got my senior national race Lic MA but haven't got a copy of the MoMs. I'll have to see about down loading a copy in that case.

Go buy yourself some cheapo vinyl in white, yellow and red, then you have different colour backgrounds. Or for now just buy yourself some different colours of gaffer tape Honestly until you go fx superbike racing the organisers dont tend to care about number boards and numbers. As long as they are big and simple and are on a contrasting coloured number board (eg black numbers, white board) you shouldnt have a problem. And dont worry about reserving a number unless you have one that is special to you, just get your race entries in early and you'll most likely end up with your favourite number.

That's what I'm thinking. Pay the $20 and get it put on by the sign writer while he does my stickers, then it mine so to speak. Other wise wouldn't you be changing numbers every race?
Looking at MoMs now for my RSV4 Id technically need mail box red backing with white numbers. But if no one really cares as long as it's readable, could I just make it stand out against the paint scheme?
Getting a bit late now....confusing my self

i so far havnt had to change from 52 ever. but i dont really care what number im under. I wouldnt get anything made permanent (numbers and board into paintjob) just in case the rules are changed. Can happen, probably wont but it covers your butt. just use something that you can peel off if need be.

In my experience, the colours don't matter so much (except by TON, who has stupid colour board rules), so some big white numbers on a black bike are fine. The most important aspect is legibility, so as cool as the MotoGP numbers look, they generally won't be ok for racing. It doesn't mean you can't have a cool font, just keep legibility at speed and distance in mind.
When I first started racing, I went through the rigmarole of having to change race numbers fairly frequently because I didn't have a registered number. It drove me nuts!!! Such a PITA. And it never looked right in photos, because I was different numbers. Never again!! Register a number and be done with it. Some people (eg Carl and Stu, although let's put Carl's experience in perspective - he's only done a handful of race meets!) have been extremely lucky with not having a registered number and yet keeping their chosen numbers, but most mortals aren't that lucky. Do it once, do it right

Life's too Short- YOLO!
In BEARS we used to keep a list of numbers on the forum ... so we had no overlap it a bit out of date now but here is the 2012 list as I assume you'll be running with us on an APE
The other way to check is look at the PREVIOUS race results for the meeting and classes you are entering
OR
have a 3 digit number - if you have a 1 in it you can always TAPE over the 1 eg 916 becomes 96 real easy better/easy than adding a number - main issue here is space
That said I've been 7 without issue or registration for over 4 years now (BEARS/TwinSprints/ClubSport Unlimited)
