    Guys,

    I have a set of ASC tyres, French front and UK Rear ($150) for the set.

    I also have a Dunlop UK 302 front & Moto2 UK 195/75 rear (ATR025) - $175

    They say if it sounds to good to be tru then it usually is... But fuck me.. For almost $400 bucks cheaper ... 2 mins on here is easier then selling me arse in the cross every tome I need tyres

    What size is the ASC tyre? There's two sizes with pro twins I think?

    The Superbikes run a different front. Still French, but a different compound (302 versus 343 for the Twins) and a different profile. I'd hazard a guess that once Dunlop have burned through their massive over-supply of the 343, the Twins will be on 302s at some point next year.

    The Superbikes were given the 343s briefly, but after trying them they protested and refused to run them and they got given the 302. The 302 is the magic compound. 343 is too soft for the hot days, but is ok in the cold. The 343 is a lower, flatter tyre too.

    just to confirm the superbike control slicks are 125/70?

    rear i think is the same at 195/65

    They 'were'. Not sure what this year will mean.. Gloria has said that Dunlop havent finalised the details.

    Yep, because we are still getting proper UK made rears, despite the plant disappearing. The 302 is a french made front though The french made stuff is no different to the UK made stuff .

    Mr Dunlop told me at ASC that the 302 they were supplying was a French made tyre. The 302 I have on my bike now is a 120/70 and made by the frenchies...

    Yep. Exactly. Ive raced the French 125/80 tyre (Pro Twins issue) all year and really liked it and just before xmas tested the French made 120/70 302 tyre at the Island. To me, grip, wear and the braking stability was identical. The two tyres are very different in circumference though which radically altered my geometry and fucked up my ability to finish off the corners (using the 302). I'm not sure why Dunlop were supplying the French 125/80 when they could have easily supplied every class the French 302 120/70 and made life simple for everyone.

    I found the french 125/80 to work perfectly at the final ASC round despite the searing temps, infact it was bloody brilliant once you get used to the feeling of it.

    IMO, French or UK - the shit is exactly the same. I'm not exactly sure where the rubber comes from but in my eyes the French are using the same manual to make tyres as the brit's

    Au contraire; the Frenchies are very different. The fronts are a totally different profile, and I'm betting the rubber is different too.

    At the Creek for FX in Nov, I was back-to-back on the UK rear (4886) and the French replacement (T886), and they are completely different!!! Waaaaay less grip from the French version, and it's much much longer-lasting too. I've actually had a UK 4886 on one bike and the French T886 on the other bike since the Friday of FX, and have done a bunch of jumping from one bike to the other.

    The UK 4886 I could get 4 or 5 days out of (with appropriate flipping back and forth, and the right amount of heat-treatments), whereas the T886 looks like it will last until the next ice age. Good for the wallet, but not so good for outright lap times. It's not bad, it's just not quite as fast. They are definitely not same same though.

    Steve is asking about comparing to the UK version, not the French 302. The french ones are definitely different to the UK 302 in profile and construction. I haven't actually tested the french 302 yet, but will soon.

    The UK 120/70 '302' is different to the FR 120/70 '302' ???

    Sorry my comparision was of the French 125/80 334 to the French 120/70 302 - to me, same same other than the geometry issue.

    When i purchased the FR 302 to take to PI, Mr Dunlop, Neil Hardwick and I were talking. Mr Dunlop said to Neil 'the FR 302 is identical to the UK 302' because they ran out of the UK 302s that Neil originated wanted. Neil took the FR 302

    The Dunlop guys are SOOOOO full of shit!! Some of them just don't know their product at all, and others absolutely out-and-out lie to your face. It's all a sales pitch to sell you tyres. "They're the compound you should be using today/next week/at this track". "We've done heaps of testing on this tyre and it works really well at <insert track/temperature/time of year/rider ability/engine capacity>". "These new ones are <much better/exactly the same> as the old ones". etc etc.
