Thread: What I did today...

    Yesterday was a busy day.
    I fixed up my trailer with new wheel bearings and new LED lights that was needed. I also welded up the mud guard on that came off during the drive from PI.
    I also fitted new Driven chain and sprockets, and also mounted a bracket that I fabricated for my lap timer

    Here is the btacket



    I fitted some neoprean rubber to the back of it so it doesn't scratch my top triple and mounted it


    I'm also getting my tank and fairings painted, so I took off my stop grips and the tank covers I fabricated and gave them a sand and got them ready for primer, I've tested them out in a crash and they work a treat (also much cheaper). I cleaned the stompgrips and bought some adhesive so ill put them back on when the tank arrived.
    Here are the fibre glass covers I made.

    Nice work Mario, you still have access to a welder? I need to resurface my trailer, I'm turfing the van so the trailer is back in action

    quick update...

    over to Nelso's today to fit them up... stem shaft pressed in, new bearings fitted, trees installed, forks mounted, including clip on spacers...



    One Happy Customer...



    Now for some polishing and reassembly

    That looks pretty good!! Also, Nelso has his own gym... not sure how that affects his proposal for heavier riders! hahaha

    I have just worked it out why Nelso is so quick , the weight disadvantage is offset by the size of nelso's BIG balls in the 1st pic..

    Got a delivery last night

    No i didn't. No invoice or price displayed on the packaging, something that was pre arrange that i always do with them

    Also fitted some new tygon tubing the HRC line I bought was slightly bigger than 8mm and was sweating on the rear line
    While I was at it I replaced the front with 6mm tubing for the RCS

    I did this a little while ago...thought I'd share...

    Sometimes its hard to get the part you need when you need it....


    What is it I refer to???

    Look in the middle of the pic below: Engine mount bush - part number 92154A



    One of these was a minimum of 5 weeks from OS from Kawasaki... and it wasnt feasible for a local wrecker to pull a bike apart to sort one out for the customer..

    so, decided the wait was hampering progress.... broke out some CrMo bar and made this.. (notice the original on the right with a bend in it)




    repaired as good as new and another happy brazillian Aussie

    Also had to do Seals on young blokes yz, so in addition to the seal driver above, I needed to sort out the tooling to get the damping assembly sorted..





    Needed a 49mm octagonal spanner for the outside and an adapter for the Comp valve....

    whacked this up for trialling..



    and this








    Used them yesterday.... worked a treat...

    Cheaper to buy the tools no doubt...but don't learn as much that way

    one other tool I made up yesterday...not absolutely necessary, but nice to have and makes the job a little easier if you overfill with oil.. Some bikes also required the oil level filled to a certain distance from the top of the tube.. The Stainless Straw is set to the said setting then the excess is drawn back through the syringe

    need to pull my finger out and get the ZX6 back together...

    went to work on it today and found that the young bloke had the tools with him at the MX track...opted to do the ignition switch mod in the mean time.

    Interesting you ask that. Yes it does. I had the same switch on a car for nitrous. We had to remove the cover and just leave the toggle, as sometimes from vibration it would close.

    Was thinking if you had a moment, maybe got off the seat, you might accidentally hit it closed which would make things interesting.

    Can you set it up so it's reversed - closed is on then flip it up to turn it off?

    Mick, do you use CNC milling machines? I ask because i do a lot of 3D modelling for my work and am looking at getting some spare parts for my vortex rearsets made up.

    How much vibration Rick? the cover does sit up on its own but will keep an eye on it - thanks for the heads up.. it is easy enough to remove if need be - or do what marshy suggesterd

    not with this switch dan as there is a keyway for the switch cover to lock into.. you could do it but the cover might vibrate arount the switch without the little tang.

    I'd love to use CNCs Mario - My machines are old school tho...Lathe is 60s vintage and miller is 70s at best..

    At some point I will get a CNC and do custom stuff but at the moment....its the way slower method.

    I ground down the actual toggle switch on my Blade, so that the switch stayed where it was put, even when the cover was closed.

    What I did today...

    Fixed the undersized fan wiring that caused the wire and fuse holder to get hot enough to melt and stop working at the St George meeting. Lucky no fire. Pics of what was used and what I replaced it with.

    Keyless ignition wired. (Thanks for the help Johnnyb) Just waiting for some Carbon fibre sheet to make up the switch mounts for the BMW and Suzuki.

    A pic of my throttle spring mod. The standard throttle is very heavy. Next up, is to make the throttle a bit quicker, and drop a couple of kilos off me and the bike

    Niice Rick!! Can you talk me through the throttle spring mod? I'd love to lighten mine a bit too - the yammie ones are too heavy also, particularly seeing as they aren't actually physically turning the butterflies!!

    Not sure how the R6 spring is mounted on the throttle bodies Nick.
    On mine I had made, that little alloy wedge which bolts against the cable bracket. It allowed me to release the spring from its position and rest against my bracket. Taking about a third of a turn out of the spring.
