Since last year I have noticed the deficiencies with my current race bike "The Tank" like weight, suspension, brakes and aero
so since the start of the year I've bought a bike and been buying parts to turn

My logic being they are both 5 valve Yammies and 95% of what I already own with the FZ1 is interchangeable so the build will be very cost efficient

I've picked up some absolute bargains when the AUD was at 1.05 with run out stock, and the price from the wreckers over in the USA, combined with my Shipito PO Box has allowed me to stretch the budget that much further, this has given me more money to spend on the important stuff like Suspension ;-)
This complete set arrived for $150, I've cleaned and service them and added my favorite new pads($50)

Finding a window to convert everything over and fit a couple of debugging track days, between race meets is the difficult part, I could be doing it now but I want to race the old girl(The Tank) at PI at the end of the month, maybe after that and before the last round of the St George series at SMSP at the start of November....just let me through another ball up in the air to try and juggle :-)
How the bike and the body finish up at PI will determine what happens next.

Yes it is, fortunately for me the guy had financial difficulties and I bought it off Yamaha finance for what was owed

The bike I picked up at Broadford was and 07 R1 ..the misses decided she liked the colour and has registered it this week for 3 months just to try it out. :-)
This bike was bought in Queensland and I only picked it up a couple of weeks ago.

Dial in the cams last night, and after priming the injector rail a couple of times by turning the ignition on and off it started first go :-)

The vacuum pump brake bleeder wasn't as easy to use as described so a quick wash was in order after the cleaned and serviced front brakes were finally bled

Fitted the engine covers and made sure the fairing fitted again after painting

Compared to the FZ there is bugga all room to put my camera system and PCV stuff

sorted out my fairing stickers today and have Rob Racer (RT Screens) making them up
basic and you'll know its me ;-)

yep just welded up an RHS frame and put some 15mm compressed fibro I had lying around at the back of the shed on it

First shake down ride will be at SMSP on Friday 11th then tuned that arvo on my way home.
I just hope any engine oil leaks are easy to fix ;-/

Yes they are, when you have time and now the bikes past that golden age you talk about when parts are cheaper I was able to buy them for the price of a top quality rebuild over here, but they will be expensive to maintain ..their fork oil is $65/ltr
I have been building it to similar specs to that of the Rossi special (SP) that came out in 06 and they retailed for ridiculous dollars

Ive got some heat wrap to go on the pipe under the seat while it's pulled apart again

and the auto tune sensor plug will be TIGed on tomorrow, it didn't come in the exhaust :-( but the auto tune included one in it's box :-)

then put it back together, a couple of heat cycles for the exhaust to find it's spot and then a final nip up of all bolts and that's another job done.

The secret is to put it on with cloth gloves then wipe it down with WD40 before you start it so finger print marks/smudges don't get burnt into the surface

yes it does and it's more accurate to use that position than put a sniffer down the exhaust as your only tuning off 1/2 the gases...4-2-1-2 pipes

got the O2 sensor bush TIGed this arvo, installed it and the auto tune sensor

Added the double layer heat wrap to the section of exhaust under my seat as well, then put it all back together again

I still have some little bits and pieces to to fix over the weekend and then it will be all about fitness and riding/setting up the suspension

Tidied up a few things to-day
Found this cut on the radiator hose

and remembered these solid dowels to completely block off the the air pollution stuff

I've put my camera system back on and it was a challenge due to the lack of room
any way it went together like this

Waiting for a new lens fro the rear camera it cops a sand blasting from the rear tyre I may change it's position or put in some sort of shield and safety tether PA050354.jpg

also put in some rear duct sliders which proved to work extremely well on the FZ1

basic preload suspension adjustment and it's good to get on the track for it's final set up and learn how to ride it.

It's been frustrating and enjoyable at the same time, the starting point of this bike incorporates all little developments the FZ1 ended with...not performance but just little things that makes it easier to maintain, ride and race
