Was on eBay a month or so ago and found a K3 600 rear wheel in good nick for $75 no bids. Being an avid collector of wheels for this particular model I thought 'Why bloody not?' and chucked a bid on. Being a lucky and good looking son of a bitch (and the only dude in the market for this stuff) I won.

I couldn't pick it up for a week and then the dude was away and then I was away and by this time I had forgotten about it. As you do. On Tuesday I received a message from the seller along the lines of 'hurry up and get this fucking wheel we're all busy' which is fair enough so I go over to his workshop to collect it. I'm having a fuel pump issue on my 600 so I asked if he had any other bits from the bike he pulled apart but alas, he did not. He asked if I was restoring one and I had to correct him. Oh no, I said. I race one. Occasionally. When my ankle is pointing the right direction and time and finances allow. He was quite amused.

Dear Ebay buyer, he said. Are you in the market for another cheap track bike? Of course I was not, but curiosity got the better of me.

whaddayagot?

He led me through the maze of bikes to show me something that had come in the day before and was going to the wreckers the day after. A 2008 ZX6R. Front end hit. Apart from the missing nose fairing (that conveniently was on bench next to it, smashed) the bike looked pretty good. A quick look showed no visible damage to the forks, wheels, bars not bent, even the MC reservoir wasn't busted.

How cheap is cheap, kind sir? He answered. It was cheap.

Not the day before I had purchased a CR250. I had to think about this. Was another bike the actions of sensible, sane man?

I thought.

I thought.

I bought.

First of all, congrats and welcome to the green side! ;)

Second, back to ebay! Parts for this particular model are always cheap as chips, see example below... and I'll prob go to hell (again) for even suggesting it but you can't have enough bad Karma in this life!

Very nice , so the rear wheel purchase turned out to be a bit more expensive than 1st thought.
Wheel $75 ,but comes with a spare bike for $$$$ . But a bargain none the less.
So how many bikes are you up to now?

Oh it's not my first Kawasaki - got a 1970 H1 500 tucked away!

I know nothing about these bikes. What's the deal with that ECU? Is it the KIT one? I should get this?

I've started a list of all the things I think I'll need (and some I just want). If anyone has any suggestions about good stuff for one of these I'm all ears. Will be slowly accumulating all the bits and pieces to put together later in the year so happy to take it slow and try make the right decisions.

It is the KIT ECU... it's a nice bit of gear but then you'll need the racing harness to run it (at least on the 09+ you do) and that's more money.

In short, that ECU will do the 'jumper mod**', allow you to map it and advance ignition (although it's not as straight forward as mapping a PCV or Bazzaz), a quickshifter (pass light activated), pit limiter and you no longer need a key to run the bike (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BgW0XomTf4). There's prob something else I forgot too. Not bad for the price but you have to factor in the cost of mapping it and buying the harness. Hence why I said I'd go to hell for suggesting it... hahahaha

I'm not sure if the Australian delivered model is the same as the US one but there's a thing called '**jumper mod' that the Americans do to free up some ponies and it's as ultra simple/cheap. Apparently engine then matches the 09+ model output which is not a bad thing... There's a bit more info on it here (http://www.kawiforums.com/sale-aftermarket-parts-accessories/130022-07-08-zx6r-race-ecu.html). You can also remove the secondary valves as suggested on the RACE manual (http://www.factorypro.com/manuals/Kaw,KRT,zx6r,zx10r,05-07,Mk2,lateKRT/zx6r,07,Racing_Kit_Manual.pdf).

But for now, I'd concentrate on getting the things that she's actually missing (http://www.ebay.com/itm/KAWASAKI-ZX6R-ZX6-07-08-RAM-AIR-DUCT-CARBON-FIBER-RA09-/110622271961?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19c199e9d9&vxp=mtr) and building a basic track bike if I were you... then take her for a spin and see what YOU feel would make it better. Of course that are some stuff that will always improve it but you've been around the block enough times to know what they are! ;)

Ps: This (http://support.bazzaz.net/service_manuals/ZX600P8F.pdf) should help!

Its been my plan the entire time. Spend thousands of dollars on track bikes, win the trust of the community only to steal Dans new clip on money!

Why don't you just depsoit to Marshy and I'll grab em off him. Gonna end up with him anyway lol ... and then I can't run off with it, might save that scam for something more lucrative ... like rear sets or something!

They're not too different to the 09+ from what I could gather... Some frame angle differences, no BPFs and minor engine differences really. Going from the 09, you can remove a fair bit out of it by adding a full exhaust or midpipe, PAIR valve, servo motor, etc... And a lot more if running the race harness/ECU.

you better stick to gathering sticks , not even close to an 09

So... After much deliberation I've decided to put this baby back on the road. I've been unming and ahhing for a while but it seems like the best option. Race parts, whilst not quite hen's teeth, aren't exactly plentiful and I figure I'm better off to sell this and put the money towards a 09/10 R6 or ZX6 than pour money into what is essentially now a 10 year old bike.

I've bought the ram air, dash bracket and dash for about $300 total and I picked up a set of green oem fairings / headlights / indicators / all the road gear the other day for $250. Just need a day now to get it back together, then blue slip, rego and will flog it off.

Bit of a shame as I really like these undertail exhaust zx6r's but oh well - going fastest is more important haha

If it's that easy, go for it!! I'd have thought that putting a SWO back on the road would be a major PITA...

I kind of do though haha

I was surprised at how easy it was to ride. Wasn't as heavy as I was expecting, I thought it handled really well but the grunt was unbelievable. I've never ridden a litre bike before so it was all very new. Definitely would love to try it again (once my eyes stop watering and I get my shoulders put back into their sockets).
