I'm pretty keen for this - it was a ball last year. If nothing else, it's terrific practice for race starts!

Anyone else?

Edit: I just checked the entry form, and there's no doubling up with cross-entry any more!! :'(

That's a bit disappointing, as I was looking forward to doing 8 races in a day again.

I'm in. In DESPERATE need of practice for race starts so should be good. Know a fair few people entering in 600's this year so might be a slightly bigger grid than usual there.

Should be a blast!

Ok, I just heard back from Gloria, and Pro Twins is a separate class again! Happy days.... 8 races in a day, 16 starts (good practice there!). :peace:

And which bit of racing requires toe-lifting?? I can't bend my gear-change ankle, but you don't see me not racing

Where there's a will, there's a relative... no, wait. Where there's a burning desire to be the best... ummm, what was I talking about again?

The days are fairly casual and relaxed.

What was the problem?

Had the quick shifter harness just touching something ( maybe radiator not sure asi just ripped it out then checked over the harness later.) It had just worn through the insulation on a section with no shrink wrap and was earthing out. Blew another ignition fuse at pi then when I replaced it it kept blowing them asi turned the ignition on.

Should be all sorted mor now though :)

Its nothing like that. I was waiting for a cab at 5:00am for a Melbourne flight on Future and there was a driver in the lobby who kept asking reception what room you were in, saying he had a pickup booked in for you.

Bahaha fair enough, my apologies. That was the Monday morning? That was a couple of the crew guys from one of my bands getting a ride to International. It was their TM as well - guess they enjoyed the after party a little too much.

Mind you, their lobby was 5.30am. If that driver had called my room at 5am I'd have snapped it big time haha

Had a pretty bad day trying out a different shock and heavier spring set up. Completely destroyed my confidence. Ended up doing mid 7's so about 2 seconds off pace.

Ended up getting 2nd in class because one of the other blokes dnf'd the 3rd race. time to go back to the softer spring I thinks! Never even saw Carl so you must have picked up some good time since the 4 hour!

I'm going to assume that Dan is the same Dan I met in RYM on the old GSXR600, and his race win was after getting me at turn 10 :P

Yesterday was my first race having entered in RYM. I qualified 1st and pretty much led from the front.....until Dan found his speed and caught up to me on the last lap of Race 2 (I think he was starting from the 3rd row). He got me at turn 8, I returned the favour but he succeded out braking me in 10 and the drag to the line.

Race 4, and he managed to catch me by the 2nd last lap. I could see/hear him coming me and my pitcrew was waving at me furiously from the wall, telling me to speed up. Pressure got to me and I ran wide at T9, but managed to switch back and get the drive out of T10. Just squeezed my nose in-front by .06s for the win.

Didn't manage to catch you after the race Dan, but that was awesome fun. Might see you in Retro 600 next time ;)

I also managed to drop almost 2 seconds off my previous PB setting a 1.07.6 (coincidentally, this was on the final lap when I was trying to stay in-front :D) Amazing what a bit of pressure can do to push past you're comfort zone.

I had a great time. Finally found my confidence for the first time since the great high side of 2013. Good racing with Geoff / zooker as well; really enjoyed the tustle. Consistently dropped times during the day and Finished up doing 1.06.2 on the 03 600 which I can't complain about! Won d grade retro and my rym row and as mentioned before my first outright race win from the third row. Really looking forward to the next round - might even change my eastern creek gearing for that one haha

the triple 850 pulled well. Kev was a bit slower through the corners but unless you got around him in the twisties, then it was a struggle on the straights.. I tried several times to go up the inside of T10 and couldn't make it stick.

On the final lap, he came in tight into T10 to close the door on me but I was far enough back to go around the outside and sprint to the line. was a lot of fun battling. I reckon it would make a nice street fighter.

dan
22-03-2015, 06:49 PM
Yeah I would be on his tail but couldn't find the space to get through and when I did he just pulled away. Once I get used to being out there a bit better I'll be more comfortable sticking it in and going for it.

Pro-Twins last race. This one was the mostest fun, chasing Kris around for most of the race. After the overtake into T10, we are literally handlebar to handlebar the entire length of the straight! It was fascinating that the bikes were so even. I was on the 09, which always feels slower than the '13. In very hot weather (above 30 degrees), I'm sure it really is slower, but below say 25 degrees ambient, it feels exactly the same. The motor runs at almost 100 degrees in the heat, compared to 80 for the '13, but as you can see in the vids, the 09 runs at the same lower temp in cooler ambient weather. I guess the take-home lesson is that excessive motor heat really does sap horsepower!

Sounds like a plan. I'll see how I go at the next ARDC day and if the injuries hold up, I'm in!! :thumb:

Didn't see a familiar face but there was a guy at start of straight taking a few. Thought he was with someone

I saw Ray Oxford and Philip Veneris at Barry Sheene so it wasn't either of them...

Marshy, What camera mount is that you were using ?

A normal flat stick-on gopro mount, but stuck on the tank a lot like yours (but without your ultra-cool metal support bracket). Then just two extension bars. I had already ordered the Ram Mount from the USA at great expense (it hasn't arrived yet), but I'm actually loving the current mounting position so much I don't think I'll use the Ram. It's really good that it doesn't flick around with movements in the bars like my old mount. And it's further back, so there's a wider view around the sides of the screen.

Your thoughts??

Here's a pic I took to show Owen after I set it up. The tape was just extra security.

Video of all my starts yesterday. I'm still trying to work out how to launch the Aprilia.... I tried a bunch of different things, mostly lower revs. Still not much worked!

Launch control no good??

Normally the retro are run with the 600 class. They changed it this time due to grid numbers

It's the 09. No launch control (or traction control).

My bad

All good. I'm slowly getting the bits together to retrofit it. No rush but, because it feels the same anyway. Launch control would be nice, but I can't get it to work properly on the '13 anyway.

Yeah I'd rock that. It gives you a view of all the vitals so is heaps better for you to learn from the video, gearing and exactly what your doing at different points around the track rather than just seeing the road.

Camera mounts- If anyone needs i have a bunch of RAM mount stuff that just sits in my toolbox. I don't use it anymore.
Different length arms and bases etc. They are rock solid. I'd been using one as my lap timer mount for a couple of years and never had a problem.

Tip for Ram mount stuff Nick- Mr Mobile in Alexandria on Botany road. Good stock of many Ram Mount bits.

Thanks Jamie.... I wish I'd known that earlier ;) Serves me right - I should've asked the TT brains trust!
