Well that's good then... I remember a while back (say 4-5 years) there was talk of someone who had entered a GSXR750 as CS600. No idea how much of that is/was true or not but from the 'tale' he never got caught but only 'cause he never finished top5 so no one got suspicious.

I think it's only me that had to destroy my bike to prove it was eligible. They only spent two hours in the middle of a race meeting making me strip it down over and over and over. Someone obviously was pointing the finger at me, even though it was a 10/07-plated 08, and I could've been legally running a 12/08-plated 09 - ie more than a year newer and still be legal.
Nelso
20-09-2014, 10:05 AM
They made a point about a year ago to start checking compliance plates after there were accusations of people cheating. They came around during the race meet and checked mine, even though it's an '04 model, so they were being pretty thorough.

I write down on tape and put on the tank my grid position, row and draw lines for the positions across and underline my one. I don't trust myself to remember it for a whole warm up lap! ;) I was in a garage a long way from race control - it's a farking long walk to get up there for your number and back, especially when you are X entered and have one race period to get it all done.

Mr.Ed
25-09-2014, 08:39 PM
For $75 I'd cross enter just to get some extra practice before qually of whatever event you choose to take 'seriously'... hell, I'd even do all the starts as practice!! Then maybe finish the lap and pull into the pits. Almost cheaper than going to the drags and a lot more fun.
Little Mick
26-09-2014, 04:21 AM
As long as you are organised tho ed. Remember my first race meet? I was the proverbial headless chook and pumping adrenalin all day
zoidberg
26-09-2014, 05:28 AM
Hmm, they are both god points. How much time is there between the different classes etc? I'm assuming they wouldn't run classes that have a chance of cross entering back to back? Or is it just a luck of the draw thing?
I guess for another $75 it then becomes 6 races and 2 qualifying sessions, so definitely better value for money. But then again, you don't race bikes because it's cheap.
CLIFFY
26-09-2014, 06:42 AM
Some are back to back depending on classes entered but even if they're one race between, it's only a 5 lap race and by the time you put warmers on and fuel in, that race has gone pretty quick. My first race weekend was both classes at smsp in February this year, I did all races and felt fine. At least you're only throwing $75 away if you can't handle the extra laps.
Phat3R
26-09-2014, 06:46 AM
The $75 makes it tempting as you get soooo much more.
There is a one race gap between races for the 600's makes it all a bit rushed. Especially when it's your first time, need to find out where you finished to get your starting grid position, race timing is running late, shit I forgot to put in fuel, where's the funnel ... etc ... . Certainly leaves little time for anything else like socialising.
I felt like it turned it from something that was suppose to be fun into a bit of a job. Three races, practice / qually is plenty for me in the future, assuming I can remember how to ride.
Marshy
26-09-2014, 11:02 AM
I reckon the $75 is worth it just for the extra practice and quali sessions in the morning, especially on a track you don't ride all the time (like the North circuit, or Broadford). Then if you're fading during the day (or running out of tyres etc), just drop your non-points scoring class). Besides, it's the absolute cheapest track time in $$ per lap terms you'll ever get!!! ;)
Mr.Ed
26-09-2014, 12:56 PM
As long as you are organised tho ed. Remember my first race meet? I was the proverbial headless chook and pumping adrenalin all day
Yes but you were trying to do both classes till the end... hahahaha And to be honest, you did a hell of a good job! What I'm suggesting is to just take one seriously and use the other one as practice, especially for race starts!
I know I'm preaching to the converted but for those who have not raced yet, on a 5 lap race your start+1st lap is almost 50% of your result. So if you can practice those, I reckon there's a LOT of value in those $75.
But yeah, you do bring another good point... if zoidberg can arrange someone to lend a hand (aka pit bitch) that makes a world of difference, especially with it being your first race weekend. In the end, what gets you are the little things like forgetting to fill up, not having enough time to go get the race results sheet between races, adjusting tire pressures and etc. So bringing a mate or 2 is REALLY good.
Little Mick
26-09-2014, 01:03 PM
The st g weekends are not too bad as a few guys do both classes so they are spaced at least 1 race apart. Worst I had was Fxrrc where the 2 classes were back to back on different bikes. Helping hands like ed are a must

Hey Jaimie, I'm missing the round due to injury but have emailed St George to volunteer, so you can put me down (Martin Abrahams).
Also to anyone else in need of an official, my gf will most likely be volunteering too so drop me a PM if you need an official
Cheers

Are you in it for the high Fives and water cooler chats.
Are you that talented that you would
only give your volunteer time to a place runner or simply more of a Marshal elitist ?
To me the idea of supplying a marshal is to give something back, help out the sport.
I just don't have any friends so I have to ask other forum members. [emoji22]

I thought you would be in the running for a place? It's going to be a thin field compared to Feb.
I won't be racing, thought I might do some pit bitching for the needy as well as head over to T2 and take some photies ...

You'll get a bunch of paperwork in the mail a few days prior to the event. And at the same time an entry list will go up on the club website (and normally a TT member will spot it and let everyone know on here), and only then if you aren't listed do you need to worry.

Did you not see how easily he just walked past me on the straight at the first St George round? That thing is a dead-set weapon! I would catch him going into and driving out of nearly every corner and he would just pull bike lengths on me before the next corner. JC must have forearms like Popeye hanging onto it.

Brabham circuit, unfortunately. We did email them asking about running the bikes on the GP circuit as proper race practice for the race meet, but haven't received a reply. Hey, how about we all email reception@ardc.com.au with our desire to run on the GP circuit in preparation for the race meet on the following two days? I mean, isn't that what private practice is for?!?
Oh, and the cars could still run on the extended circuit. We just need a flaggie to move the witches hats before and after the bike session.
Thoughts?

Subject: Bikes race practice for the 7th
Hi Christine,
Could you please pass this along to the relevant Private Practice organiser? Thanks :)
As you may be aware, the final rounds of St George MCC Road Race Championship are to be held at SMSP the weekend following the ARDC Private Practice on the 7th of November.
Naturally, us bike riders would dearly like the chance to practice on the course we'll be racing on. To this end and having spoken to the riders involved, we would like to request that for November the 7th, our sessions at least, be changed to GP Circuit as opposed to the Full Brabham circuit.
We hope you understand our position and that our request can be met without too much trouble with regards flag marshals etc. I look forward to hearing from you.
Many thanks,
Marshy
30-10-2014, 11:08 AM
Bummer. I don't think there will actually be any significant build up, but they seem not-negotiable. It's the same reason we heard last time we asked.
Hi Nick,
Thankyou for your email which requested that sessions for motorcycles at the November 7 practice day be held on the 3.93 km Gardner Circuit.
I have discussed the issue with our CEO and our Circuit Supervisor and unfortunately it is not as simple as moving a few witches hats. Because rubber and debris will build up on the outside of turn 7 during car practice sessions this area will have to be cleaned off with our industrial blower before bikes can use the Gardner Circuit. This will take approximately 6 to 7 minutes per change. Over the course of the day this will total 30 to 35 minutes of down time when nobody can practice.
Because of the loss of time involved we have decided to conduct all sessions on the longer Brabham Circuit as advertised.

Well Saturday was definately eventful to say the least... :(
I was running recovery all day with Shippy on the Saturday and we were hell busy..were out nearly every session, for some reason the Nth Circuit catches alot of PPL out and seems to have a bad hoodo on it..:attention:
Also was one of the unfortunate marshalls to witness the big pile up with Sicko and the other lads as i was right on the start line - fire extinguisher in hand we put out the bikes and checked if everyone was ok... i think for Shippy and myself it was a real eye opener as to how dangerous our sport can be and how quickly things can go bad.
Im glad to hear you boys are all ok and will heal up as it didnt look good -thoughts are with you all and if you need any help just shout out.
To all the marshalls , Ambo's, Stg Crew and all officials you do a great job behind the racing scene - thank you :) - it was nice to be on the other side and see all the hard work that goes into these events and was awesome to volunteer to give something back.
Congrats to all the guys who had a successful weekend

An accident-marred event, but also some top racing!! BEARs was particularly good - the top 6 were having ding-dong battles each race, with lots of passing and fun fun fun!! I should have a couple of great videos in the next day or two.
Of course, my thoughts go out to all our injured friends and fellow competitors. It was heartening to hear that yesterday's injuries (whilst still serious!) were not as bad as initially feared. I'm not sure what the outcome of the bad turn 8 incident this afternoon was.

Ditto to the one in turn 4 in the 600 clubby.
Something about this weekend will keep it being talked about for a long time to come... from the number of incidents to watching aaron morris and Aiden wagner showing us how its done... the entry into turn 1 was phenominal... and then to working on the support side and being part of what makes it all happen..
Great stuff!!!
hopefully everyone gives some thought to the weekend and where they ended up (the good and not so good) and chalk up more experience from it and improve regardless.

think he was carted of to hospital by ambos.
had a few polite words with him prior to this incident, as he was takin unnecessary risks under brakes, causing other riders around him to go off line an avoid him completely, nearly taking me out with him on a few occasions as well.
I asked him to think about his braking technique an not be so aggressive under brakes, leaving you with nothing in reserve ......
his response .... "fuck off, don't tell me how to ride". (I wasn't telling him how to ride, just re-think his strategy)
so then it got nasty, and I thought "this is going well, lol not".
Not the sort of bloke that can be reasoned with aye?
it's a shame most of us know and are a little worried when we see him near us on the track.
He's probably a really nice guy in person, as our convo didn't really go all that well. :(

Then report it to the clerk of course. I think it was at T2, wasn't it? There's one flaggie down there, and almost 50 bikes going through at once after a race start. They can't see much with all that going on, and are only looking for incidents requiring a yellow flag. They can't be expected to monitor/police/judge riding behaviour. Race control can't see T2 at all (ditto anyone on the roof etc), so they aren't watching either.
Fyi, I've heard 2nd hand that Spilly has broken ribs and collarbone, and a punctured lung. He was choppered out.
