Apparently only Michelin tendered for it ... maybe they are just taking turns ... do they actually make any money out of it?

If I'm not mistaken the tires are supplied free of cost... so they're in it basically for the marketing and R&D side of things.

What Ed said. It costs them heaps, but they do it for reputation and subsequent retail sales.

It doesn't seem to be perceived as worthwhile in terms of advertising and exposure by the majority of tyre manufacturers if only one tendered? Especially if the incumbent didn't tender!

So wonder what effect will this have on the bikes?
