I think it's just an Akra end can, but I don't know them well enough to tell. It's still got the flapper, so I reckon that part is stock. I will investigate further.
Sachs suspension all around. Forks, rear shock and steering damper. The Factory model has Ohlins all round, but considering the fact that much of the Ohlins stuff that is OEM fitment is rubbish (675R, Kawi steering dampers, etc), plus the fact that I reckon almost all the latest Ohlins aftermarket stuff is rubbish too, I was actually happy to rock the Sachs stuff!
The fairing is already in production, and it is like the one you linked, but without the Alitalia and the green. Tank cover is coming with it, so that will be colour matched.
Can't wait to ride it!!! :thumb:
Mr.Ed
22-02-2014, 05:45 PM
I thought the 675R was the only 'good' factory ohlins... the Ducati ones are supposed to be rubbish too. And the Kawi dampers are useless.

Spilly hated the Panigale after the R6 at the Creek the other day. We'd just spent forever fitting race glass, and after the weekend at the track, it's going back on the road. I'm sure once they are sorted, they are a good thing.
I haven't ridden the 675R, but Cos rode one for a day at Wakefield to prepare for the 8 hour, and said it was underwhelming/nothing special. Again, probably a very good thing once sorted, but how much effort is involved?

Nah, I meant just the Ohlins bits... by all accounts the 675 is supposed to be a bitch to setup properly and even then it's underpowered against a well sorted jap 600.

So I thought there was a problem with the APRC, because the light was on solidly and you couldn't go into the settings menu for all the APRC functions.....
After a couple of days of tinkering, I finally decided that enough was enough, and I checked the user manual online. (Yes I know, when in doubt, RTFM). Turns out it was just switched off! I switched it back on, set it into Track mode, and mucked around with the wheelie control settings, the launch control and the traction control. Far out, I'm hanging to ride it!
First outing will be on the 4th (assuming I can get someone to pick up son #3 from school). I'm locked and loaded for the track day, so maybe he could find his own way home??

Haha marshy Read the farking manual, love it!!
Yep watch out indeed Chris Perini. I hear The Aprilia is cheating, bit like riding an R6. Can't wait mate!
And don't worry about race situations the Aprilia lets you start with both eyes closed basically. So just be sure when you're dialing in those wheelie control settings on launch control that you hang it an extra 30 degrees in the air for extra sickness!
Us poor ducati riders have to do it by feel.

So I've kinda been waiting on stuff to arrive to progress the Ape build. Finally a bit of bike porn arrived today (with more expected this week).
http://tarmactalk.com/images/ape-1.jpg
I'm a big fan (so far) of the Sachs shock that comes standard on my bike, but I couldn't resist a bit of Ohlins old-school non-TTX goodness (from a different model Ape) that came my way for a bargain price.
http://tarmactalk.com/images/ape-2.jpg
And I haven't been totally sitting idly by. I've made my Marshy Special Progressive Quick Throttle(tm). And I'm not actually showing you the bit that makes it really special for fly-by-wire bikes like the Ape and the R6.....

Happy to help! Carrozzeria claims the Tri R's design rivals forged mag for weight savings. If that's the case, you'll have a good time.
Ps: Remember that those wheels run Kawasaki sprockets so you might need to get some too!
Marshy
26-03-2014, 04:10 PM
Yep, thanks mate! Just ordering some discs and speed sensors to go with them. Exxy exercise.....
Now to call MCAS for some kwaka rear sprockets!
Mr.Ed
26-03-2014, 04:35 PM
I'd go with the aluminium ones... I weighed my stock 43T vs the aftermarket 45T (Renthal, I think) and the difference was ridiculous. The aftermarket actually weighs less than half!!!

26-03-2014, 09:57 PM

For the new Ape Carrozerria wheels. They take a ZX6/ZX10R rear sprocket.
That 300 will be the death of me! I just simply CBF building it..... The race glass is sitting here, ready to go, but I have zero motivation to fit it. :frusty:

And I haven't been totally sitting idly by. I've made my Marshy Special Progressive Quick Throttle(tm). And I'm not actually showing you the bit that makes it really special for fly-by-wire bikes like the Ape and the R6.....
So here's the special bit..... I remove material from the start of the action, to actually make the throttle turn slower than stock for the 0-10% throttle. This helps take out some of the snatchiness when you go from a closed throttle to open. On the R6 and Ape etc, the ride by wire is just too jerky on that first 5 to 10% throttle.

Hey nick, with this secret squirrel mod do you need to do the same to the return side? I've got a really short throttle (progressive 53 degrees) which is fantastic but the pickup is too jerky for my liking so I've done this mod, I took it out 3-4 times and took more and more meat off each time but it doesn't feel like it's done much. I'm happy to take more off but it dawned on me that maybe I need to match it on the other side.

I've only done it on the 'on' side. The return should be essentially slack on opening throttle. Maybe check there's enough freeplay on the return side? The overall diameter increase in the cam might be using up all the freeplay, in which case you'd need to either loosen it down at the throttle body end (the return cable isn't usually adjustable at the bars) or yeah, do the mod on both sides.
Let me know! I'd ideally like to take more out of the initial opening too, so I'm keen to improve the mod. :thumb:

Thanks Nick I'll add some free play to the return side and see how it goes, I got aftermarket cables to I can do it. If I don't like the free play then I'll grove out the other side. I'll definitely ride it before I take off any more meat coz I'd hate to go too far
