View Full Version : Forma Boots
Been looking into boots a bit lately as I'm going to need a new pair. In light of my injury, my big concern is getting something that does not allow my ankle to roll at all. I've worked out that anything under $500 from any of the big brands is basically a compromise and it isnt till you hit that price point and are getting full on road racing boots (Vortice, Supertech R etc) that you get proper ankle support to prevent any flex sideways in the boot.
Then I found these - http://www.formaracing.com.au/ice.html
Does anyone use them? I've found a place that does them new for $250. Read a few reviews and they seem to satisfy my need for strength around the ankle but I hadn't really heard of them.
Anyone have any thoughts on these?
Cheers!

No idea about the boots above and I'm pretty sure prices must have gone up on the Vortices 'cause I don't remember paying that much for mine. Then again, maybe I chose to forget! :D
Anyway, not that much cheaper but with less than a day to the end of the auction you might wanna try your luck and bid snipe it!

Dan, I was just looking at the same boot myself at the same place for $250. Freaky
I had my eye on a white pair of Vortice's in 43 in the states on ebay but I forgot when the auction was ending and missed out. 2nd hand, but in good condition. Would have had them for under $250. Devo.

Fancy that! You going to get them? I think I might give them a go unless I hear any horror stories.
Figure also if I get them new and the build quality isnt up to scratch I can return them anyway.
I just bought them. Party.

I always worry when the price it too good to be true. Make sure they are not knock offs ... yeah, how, farked if I know how you check beforehand. Piracy in MC gear is rife.
They are coming from a proper store in Victoria. Discounted 40% so I'm pretty sure it's all above board.

Isn't your gsxr a knock off of a Lamborghini ?
You can get them from the U.S for 300 anyway but as Dan said its a shop
If anyone is after Vortice's I found a dude on Ebay who has a pair for $400. They are listed at $430 but will take $400 outside of ebay to avoid the fees.

This thread is near and dear to my heart, because I had the same problem as Dan! I always used Sidi Vortice for the ankle strength, but recently switched to the Gaerne for ease of use and comfort. Anyway, the Gaernes are now in multiple pieces and in the bin, and I was gonna go back to the Sidis, but I'm open to suggestions!
Where did you get the Formas for $250??

I have a pair of supertech R's and I love them Nick. Comfy yet strong and safe

I still rate the Sidis.
They just take a looooong time to get broken into with the fake leather they use

They have a bunch of colours, but not all sizes available in all colours.
I went with the 'Flow' model in white. As you can probably guess, they have perforations for air flow. It's nice when they keep things simple with the names.

The Zipper in my Sidi stripped for the 2nd time so went to the R's and I love them, very comfy on my broken little toe :-)
I'll probably get the zipper fixed and use them on track days

That was a mistake... and this coming from someone who also chose white when ordering his boots!! PITA to keep them looking half decent. Also, the Abraham reps would match your bike perfectly... just saying! hahahaha

I really liked the Abraham reps but I'm not really interested in wearing replica clothing. My first choice was blue but not available in my size. Hate black. Bike is getting a new paint job before St George as well! Definitely can imagine them a prick to keep clean though. Oh well, CHARACTER!

Abraham reps coming my way!! Thanks for the heads up. Last pair in my size. The only other option was white.

Yeah, I bought some too.
These were the others I was looking at. Worthingtons sell them so still might see if I can wrangle a deal http://www.tcxboots.com/eng/prodotti-dettaglio.php?categoria=1

A friend of mine has some Gearne race boots he may be selling, just waiting for him to give me an answer, very clean hardly worn like 4 times tops, I think he is looking for $200 nothing in it for me, just thought seeing as this was a boot thread it might save someone a dollar or 2

Ok, my track spares are now up for sale. My current Gaernes will become the spares so these no longer needed. As many of you know I haven't been riding long and the Gaernes are my 3rd pair so the spares aren't that old or used.
Here first then elsewhere on Thursday.
Arlen Ness perforated size 45/11 $90
Berik GP similar to the Arlen Ness but not perforated. $50

I like the look of those... well, not so much the look but the fact that they seem to take next to nothing to put on!

That's what I thought about the Gaernes. Turns out they lacked 'ankle roll' resistance. Everything's a trade-off, right?

Just got an email with this:

Cheap, no?
Yeah that is a great price. I found those on an Italian Ebay store for just over $300 delivered as well.

Boots arrived today. Thought they were too small then I realised they still had paper in the toe - been a while since I've boot new boots. They are pretty comfortable and seem quite strong when attempting to bend the ankles over. Leather isn't as plush and pretty as the Dainese / Alpinestar offerings but at half the price that is to be expected. They look a little 'plasticky' up close but again, they were never going to be as plush as the big brands.
They tighten up real well with the ratchet system and there is also a strap over the top of the foot to make them tighter or looser depending on your preference.
All in all they seem pretty remarkable value at $240.

Supertech R's or nothing.
i had the Puma 1000's before (which were awesome BTW) Supertech R's were so far above them in terms of comfort ease of on/off and I have crashed them 5 times with no issues

I've massively overspent this xmas (mainly because I bought more bikes ) and I've decided that I should use some of the other 3 sets of boots I own, so I'm looking to offload these for what I paid. $240. Still untouched, with tags. Size 45.
