Ok i have been working up to this for a year now and nervous as hell but the regs are out and i have just sent my form in , doing both days in 600 clubsport and 600 class

Saturday is the North and south circuits (depending on what class your in)

Sunday gp circuit so same as Feb earlier this year .

Not sure how it works when you send in your application but my licence runs out on the 31/10 . Will they accept my application pending me showing my new licence on the day?

Yes, you'll be fine. You normally show your lic at sign on.

Yes. In fact, so long as you've sent in your renewal in time, just write the expiry as 31/10/2014. The licence number remains the same, and they check your licence when you arrive anyway.

We did that track in February and it was a lot more fun than I expected. Surprisingly I am looking forward to racing it on Sat. I am hoping to cross enter too. Not far away now.

Do it! It's actually really cool, not crappy like you'd imagine. I don't think a ride day would be too special, but racing is a whole other thing - it was tops in Feb!!

What's the deal with the numbers. I have a registered one, 288, but the farker is just about too big to fit on the bike as per the regs, should I put some white vinyl under it, plus where's the best place to get legit race numbers? Marshy do you do those with your new vinyl cutting system?
Also read something about needing to find a sex slave for the day for the clerk of the course to be eligible to win a prize? Meh ... my prize winning chances only involve a wooden spoon anyway! :-)
And finally I don't know Bretto's full name to put down on the form to share a garage with him, I was going to PM him but the "other track forum" shat itself into tiny little bits last night.

I can do you some numbers, in the correct font, but make them a tad smaller to fit in the available space. Just let me know the area you have to work with. What bike is it again? You need to have a contrasting background (you should have a proper number board, but it's not imperative so long as they are clearly legible coming down the chute.

Can't remember Bretto's surname either!

Thx Marshy, the bike is a GSXR600K1 with W4U glass ... it has space in the middle for numbers ... but they want them on one LHS for GP and Nth Circuits. What's the deal with the rear, across or one on each side? I'll measure / photograph it tomorrow and send you the details.

I'll measure the white space size tomorrow, but I think with some slightly smaller numbers it should fit in the middle of the nose?

In the middle will be fine. I've got regulation number sizes and font on mine and they are big with 3 digits.
I tend to think if i went the next size down as i've seen on other racebikes it would be fine also.

I can do precut numbers in regulation size and font, or any amount smaller (not just whatever their 'smaller' size is). If you want regulation, that's easy. If you need just a fraction smaller (or any height or font), just let me know. $1 each.

If anyone wants your name/nickname for each side of the windscreen, $5 for both sides (two stickers). White, black, red, green, orange, blue available. Pick a font, or I'll do them in something cool. :thumb:

It's nothing to do with other providers - I don't mind at all! This isn't RATs - we don't have those stupid rules (which is mostly what made me leave in the first place). Feel free to post any shops or sites that interest you, or that you recommend. It's all a rich tapestry of motorcycle goodness :peace: There are no restrictions here, except to be nice to each other.

Leave the van packed and make sure to stay awake on the plane... I've done a track day exactly 12hs after landing from a 26hs flight. It can be done... hahahaha

I'm not gonna tell you it's easy... but there plenty of pluses!! Like, you'll be outside which is the best way to get rid of jetlag... and you'll be doing something that will keep you awake regardless! Just make sure to have a decent coffee in the morning and back it up after lunch. I really needed one just before the 4th session but once I was on the track I had no issues.

my only concern is the short turnaround both ways.

flying to Singapore on Sunday, Dubai on Tuesday & back to Sydney on Friday night (last plane in).

I don't usually fly very well either

How strict are they with spectator entry? I know you get three 'tickets' automatically, but do they actually check at the gates or what? I've got four people that want to come and don't really want to pay another $15 for a ticket for someone to watch a family member race in a club event...

They are very, very (ridiculously!!) strict. It's just silly, and I mentioned that at the club meeting the other week, but they weren't the slightest bit interested in changing. I've had to jump out of my car at the gate at Wakey 6:30am and run up and give a spare ticket to a racer in a car ahead because he'd left his tickets in the pits and they wanted him to pay full price. What person would turn up to a Goulburn race meet, in the middle of winter, at sparrow's fart in the morning, that wasn't competing (or a family member of a competitor)? Daft.

Just ask around in the pits (or beforehand), and you can normally find people that have spares they don't need, particularly for one day or the other (you can use the same ticket for a different person on Saturday and Sunday).

Actually, I believe you can, yes. I've used mine at PCRA events that had an entry fee, which is same same.

Or we can do both:

Rider under 90Kgs - ballast to make up for it

Non stock engine - add 20kgs

Question re tip over sensors ... for racing do you disable them or you would prefer it cuts out?

Back in the olden days, before tip-over switches, we used to race with lanyards on (like on a tinny with an outboard, on a stretchy cable), so that if you parted company with the bike it killed the ignition.

Never ridden the bike in this new 'class' so I'm not too sure if I'd have any advantages! Last time I raced I was 85kgs...

Thx Marshy ... I've still got to sort out my side stand kill switch for St George ... if I keep the side stand for TD's I was thinking that I should also keep the kill switch too so I don't go out with the thing down / partially up.

Seems like you can just remove the switch at the plug and put another plug in with a shorting wire to stop the cut out. Like this: http://www.boostbysmith.com/eliminators.html. May make the most sense ... but where to go for these Suzuki electrical connectors ... dealer I guess ... or buy a switch from wreckers and just use the plug? Wonder which will be cheaper?

Correct, it's currently an on again off again sort of thing! :-)

I had a look in the shed, and I've got a sidestand for gixxer, but not the wire (and thus the plug). I've also checked the partial wiring loom left over from the gixxer (and the two complete yamaha ones) and I still don't have a spare plug, sorry. You could wire a switch into the bike side of the cutout plug, to close the circuit when you remove the sidestand for racing....

Oh, I've also just found a K&N filter for a K8 gixxer 600/750 in excellent condition (I just serviced it with cleaner and new oil). $40 if anyone wants it.

Hey switch isn't a bad idea ... JayCar have some marine grade SPST I was eying off for your fan mod when I move to H2O for the radiator ... might get two of them and do some soldering this weekend.

Not sure... but if on F1 the current issue is drivers having to lose weight 'cause 5Kg more equals something like 0.2sec/lap, I'm guessing on an even lighter and extremely underpowered vehicle (35hp?) it should prob be a lot more.

Hey switch isn't a bad idea ... JayCar have some marine grade SPST I was eying off for your fan mod when I move to H2O for the radiator ... might get two of them and do some soldering this weekend.

Get a good switch! I was just out in the shed AGAIN replacing the switch for the fan. The internals just keep breaking, which is really weird. I've got an even bigger, more solid one this time.


Not sure... but if on F1 the current issue is drivers having to lose weight 'cause 5Kg more equals something like 0.2sec/lap, I'm guessing on an even lighter and extremely underpowered vehicle (35hp?) it should prob be a lot more.

Yeah, it's heaps. Someone was telling me the perceived hp to kg ratio, but I forget now. Something like 3hp per 10kg. Needless to say it makes a big difference. Graham kept pulling away from me big-time on the straight bits at Broadford, and I said to him afterwards 'jeez that bike of yours has some mumbo', and he said 'it's just got 110hp' which is basically identical to mine. But he's probably 65kg and I'm almost 30kg more....

will be based on water, then have a hydrogen separator incorporated that will split the molecules, forming gases and making them lightweight. have them converted back to liquid for end of race testing...

Seems like you can just remove the switch at the plug and put another plug in with a shorting wire to stop the cut out. Like this: http://www.boostbysmith.com/eliminators.html. May make the most sense ... but where to go for these Suzuki electrical connectors ... dealer I guess ... or buy a switch from wreckers and just use the plug? Wonder which will be cheaper?

That's weird ... got to be related to vibration???

Well that's put me off the switch for the side stand idea because if it breaks I don't move, going to go with the plug with shorting wire to replace whole sensor, because it's pretty much bullet proof.

I might wire the fan to the unused light switch on the left hand bar ... that switch should work fine vibration wise.

Can't they just make the bike / rider combo the same weight for everyone in the class? Still slight advantage for the lighter riders if the ballast is situated under the current C of G.

I did both to my gixxers. Never looked back! Besides, you've only gotta ride down pit lane with the sidestand still down once - with the entire 180 riders at a track day screaming and pointing at you - before intense embarrassment cures you of your forgetfulness. Trust me, I know ;)

'Always' is a relative term in this case - 18 months ago I was at the back of mid field. Admittedly, turns 1 and 2 are a bit easier towards the front.

There are a lot of variables to consider regarding that advice. One of them being terminal velocity at the end of the straight. The fastest riders I know tell me the harder and longer you hold it on the more you will need to brake. The faster I'm going in lap times the more I'm having to brake and it helps steer it in. Each to their own I guess. I've got a few 279s and 281s on my GPS from yesterday. I can't do it without braking ;)

+1. Aim to back off/brake at the slip road a few metres before the 100 board, but you will normally need to brake a little even on a 600. Unless you're an A grade super-champion....

I stopped worrying about crashing. Simple (and as massively complex!) as that. I was always thinking about it, every corner, and now it never comes into my mind. That change alone is worth 10 secs a lap. Forget suspension tweaking or more horsepower... the real speed comes from within the mind.

Interestingly, I'm also much less likely to crash now!

+1 !!! although thats not to say go out hell for leather beyond skill level, but definitely backng yourself a bit...And racing is a great way to do that as you are so focussed about the battle with competitors that you go smoother and faster than if you were on a track day...

I have a mate doing his first race this weekend and he won't do any lead up ride days in case he crashes. (and he needs the practice)
Riding close quarters was my biggest hurdle when I started racing 4 years ago

I'm doing a day at WP on Wednesday to get some last minute tweeking done on the new suspension, that will have been 4 ride days in 3 weeks leading up to this last round

I can understand that. Due to my limited experience I'm still establishing how fast I can actually go through corners. I've definitely done laps where I've taken corners much, much quicker that I normally would and got through fine - plenty of grip, bike completely stable. Really need to focus on backing myself more.

yep don't worry about times or places, just get aggressive about getting in front of the bike that's in front of you and just keep doing that for every rider infront of you

also work on qualifying at the pace you race so you can start any race with the guys who are your pace

like marshy said racing is just as much mental as it is physical, although being physically fit will allow your brain to concentrate more on your racing

I went Woodcraft with the stainless steel slider that connects from inside, one was already on RHS, LHS had some cheap Chinese things that had already taken a beating, so got the matching other WC side off eBay.

So, everyone needs to supply a Marshall to be in the points. It's my first race does it matter (the points, that is)?

Both days or just the one? Sorry I'm sure this info is somewhere. Is everyone supplying one? Wouldn't the be a hundred Marshall's then?

The Marshall rule applies to St George series points over the year. Your points and prize pool for the individual rd's aren't' affected

It wouldn't matter for you as you won't be getting points to win the series.. kinda have to do every round..

Also, racing numbers... I'm under the impression that you need to have one located on the rear of the bike, is this correct? If so, which way do the numbers have to face? Do you have to be able thread them correctly from behind, or from in front? And finally, can these numbers be bought off anyone on the day?

Oh and one more, the bracket for the transponder... Do they look like a go pro mount? I have what looks to be a go pro mount at the front of my tank, my bike was raced last year so I assume it needed a bracket then. Just wondering in case I have to pay the $15 for the bracket on the day.

The grid spots are numbered, although a bit hard to see until you are right on top of them. There are numbered witches hats indicating the Rows on the right-hand side of the track (just on the grass). Use these to aim for your row, then look closely for the grid numbers.

But I always write down my grid spot on some white duct tape on my tank, and I make a note of where that spot is relative to the track. Eg, for P12, I work out that it's 3rd row, closest to the inside/pit wall. Or P14 is 4th row, second spot in from the grass. And I write them on the tank as:

P12 R3 --> 1 (first from the left)
P14 R4 <-- 2 (2nd in from the right).

Or whatever system works for you. Remember that cars grid up with pole position on the inside of the track for turn 1, whereas for bikes pole is always on the outside of turn 1. So at the creek, position 1 is on the right-hand side of the grid. At the Island, it's on the left, because turn 1 goes the other way.

Race numbers are available from the race secretary when you sign on, or from Craig White's Bridgestone truck (they are much cheaper from Jan at race control).

The transponder bracket is specific for m/c transponders, and is usually cable-tied to the top of the left fork leg, between the two triples. It will say AMB or MyLaps on it, and have a big R-clip at the top to hold the transponder in. They look nothing like a go-pro mount. Just have $15 ready.

You need the bracket. They charge you $675 if you lose or damage the transponder, so for the sake of $15, don't mess around with the wrong mount. Also, if you don't mount them in the correct position, they can not pick up your laps.

Re numbers
In the supplemental regs that came with your paperwork there was mention of making sure could been seen clearly on left or right depending on the circuit you are racing on. If doing both obviously both sides. I know there's regs for that anyway but they seemed to be making a point of it in the supp regs. Make sure all is good cause I think scrutineering will be hectic this weekend and you don't want want to miss your race for something silly causing you to be checked more than once. I've never raced so don't know how strict they are and I may be talking shit.

Just to clarify. You can drop your trailer in garages 1-18. You cannot unpack and there is no security. They are going to fit as many trailers as they can into those allocated garages.

Sydney Motor Sport Park (SMSP) is allowing any interstate or long distances travellers that are participating in the St George MCC race meeting this weekend to Bump In (drop off) their trailers on Friday night if they wish to.



WHEN CAN YOU BUMP IN: Friday night 1st November between the hours of 7.00pm to 9.00pm only.



WHERE CAN YOU LEAVE YOUR TRAILER: Garages 1-18

They will be locked up overnight, but there is NO overnight security.



You cannot unpack or set up for the weekend as you won’t be in your allocated garage & they will be jamming as many trailers as possible in these garages.



When you get to the SMSP Gates tell Security what you’re doing & they’ll let you in.

What an awesome day!!! Great racing, and good weather (although it was pretty warm). Big turnout, but they were very organised and it all went very smoothly. There was a big crash in the first race of the day (BEARS), but apart from some broken bones, apparently everyone was ok. Which wasn't what we first thought when 5 ambulances, the helicopter, and 5 cop cars showed up. An hour delay (at lunchtime - perfect!), and racing resumed.

So all you first-timers... what did you think?!?

Had a ball out there today, it was quite warm and doing 2 classes in 600 has drained me .. but im in one piece and didnt come off so thats a good thing.
