Finally took the Ape to Phillip island last Thurs and Fri.
Loving it so far and so amazed at how much more corner speed i can carry compared to the old blade. Still a bit off my PB but feeling alot better on it now.

Cheers Owen, saw it for sale when I had a few too many beers and rum under the belt, decision made for me. It's fairly standard, full system, jet-kit, ignition advancer, quickshifter and a couple of lighter aftermarket bits. Seems to be in pretty good condition though! It's got some toggle switches rather than ignition key, but I'll have to look at your setup again I think.

Picked up the R6 this arvo ... frame was bent pretty bad, you can see lots of areas where they heated up the frame to re-align it.

They fixed the frame, wheels, and swingarm.

Just need another cluster/dash, complete upper an lower triple, complete fairing, and another set of engine crash protectors ... oh and another tank. sheesh, where does it stop!

Hey Cam, i just sold a dash, a 100% perfect tank and a complete front end this last 2 weeks but i do have a full set of Woodcraft engine covers.
I've stopped using the GB cases on everything but the clutch cover. 2 crashes and two casings cracked on impact through the GB cover- oil everywhere

Interesting I have a set of each and all I spoke to suggested the GB's were better than the Woodcrafts re cracking ... as they are soft as opposed to the Woodcraft hard steel plate.

Saturnalian
27-09-2015, 11:47 PM
My GB's have cracked twice and the engine casing underneath it. The Woodcraft's are a billet aluminium so not hard steel as such. That said, i haven't crashed on them yet so, time will tell.....

Hey thanks mate! I would love to pick your brains on the bike after I have ridden it! The compliance plate is 97? Does that mean I'm stuffed for PCRA? Or retro clubsport or whatever it's called in ST George?

I remember seeing yours at a PCRA meet, looks unreal in the black and gold!

Cheers,

Nath

PS. actually, one thing, one of the pick up lug mounting points on the swingarm is snapped off. From a little research, this seems fairly common? Other than using the paddles to pick up the rear on the stand, any idea on where to get some chain adjusters with lifters? Like gilles or light-tech or something?

Thanks in advance!

The zx7r didnt change during the complianced 1995 - 2004 build period .. so you can race a 2004 if you want in Pre mod f1 @ pcra or in the unlimited retro at STG...these bikes are not yet log booked historic so there are quite a few mods you can do.

probably would just get a weld done on the swing arm - saves a lot of mucking around.

Hi Guys n Gals

Have just got the CNC milling machine up and running and have been working on a little project to help my bro recently.

He managed to do his scaphoid at the 4 hr, as those of you who have experienced it, know all too well, that its a pain in the butt to heal, and makes riding a bike for long periods of time in a sports bike position rather painful.

Now the goal was to create some adjustable risers for his SV1000 so that he can raise the bars and adjust them to suit for his upcoming 3 day ride...

The idea was to build as much flexibility as possible without being cumbersome. The plan was to use a set of aftermarket clip ons as the starting point and make some adjustable attachments to facilitate the requirements.

Off to work designing the concept and converting the ideas to images and generate some tool paths...

http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r593/sophtayl/riser%2011_zpsbjxlnvxa.jpg (http://s1173.photobucket.com/user/sophtayl/media/riser%2011_zpsbjxlnvxa.jpg.html)

Next to cut some 6061 Al bar stock and get machining...

First was to machine the slider components on the lathe, then transfer to the CNC Mill to do the detail work...

transfer the program and off we go...

http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r593/sophtayl/riser%2012_zps1qjcfb7c.jpg (http://s1173.photobucket.com/user/sophtayl/media/riser%2012_zps1qjcfb7c.jpg.html)

Next was to do the clamp bolt arrangement and bore the hole. Then repeat 3 more times....

mock up assemblies....

http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r593/sophtayl/riser%2018_zpsxx65obfl.jpg (http://s1173.photobucket.com/user/sophtayl/media/riser%2018_zpsxx65obfl.jpg.html)

mock up on a bike....

adjustment of position.... note the riser can move in just about any direction - rotate around fork tubes - providing forward backward positioning, rotate on lower shaft- providing forward backward motion and changing clip on angle, in out of lower shaft- providing adjustability in out, rotation of vertical shaft, raise lower of vertical shaft....

http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r593/sophtayl/riser%2017_zpsptdg2uaa.jpg (http://s1173.photobucket.com/user/sophtayl/media/riser%2017_zpsptdg2uaa.jpg.html)

Next to try them on the bike....

http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r593/sophtayl/riser%204_zpsvbcs3qre.jpg (http://s1173.photobucket.com/user/sophtayl/media/riser%204_zpsvbcs3qre.jpg.html)

http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r593/sophtayl/riser%205_zpsatvadwna.jpg (http://s1173.photobucket.com/user/sophtayl/media/riser%205_zpsatvadwna.jpg.html)

Achieved about 4" rise (approx. 2" over standard) with a multitude of flexibility, including the ability to pull back and to suit shorter riders (like us little blokes)

Test ride this weekend will tell.

Cheers

What's the raw cost of these (material/wear tear/setup time) ?

more curiosity than anything - when I built the 696 was playing with various bars etc ( ended up with upside down suski bars) and know how annoying it is to get just right ... was wondering (out loud) if there was a retail market for these in various lengths say 1" - 2" - 3" - 4" - Marshy ...

How many do you need ?

Hey Cam, i just sold a dash, a 100% perfect tank and a complete front end this last 2 weeks but i do have a full set of Woodcraft engine covers.
I've stopped using the GB cases on everything but the clutch cover. 2 crashes and two casings cracked on impact through the GB cover- oil everywhere

I have already got a replacement GB cover for the oil pump (the cover in front of the clutch) (which I've had no probs with GB), I got a second-hand cluster housing, as my original one still works.
Probably get away with using the same tank I have now, will be buyin one of Marshy's fairings + tank cover.
Got the lower triple clamp fitted and the gold forks I got from Tristan (apparently from Sean Condon's bike).

Need fairing ... Nick, I'll be in touch in a few weeks ;-)

Sorry linden i misunderstood your question. I thought you were referring to any job in general.
These ones took some extra time as i was taking things slow and had a bit of extra stock to mill off but can already see ways of reducing the manufacturing time. Fixtures to hold multiple pieces and let the machine run etc.

there are various adjustable bars out there but not with the same flexibility and universal fitment. Only question would be fairings and cable lengths which would still need to be addressed by the owner either way...

You should see the modifications these things get. If it was a car from the world time attack series it'll be a full tubular space frame, massive aero features and 1000hp ish motor. Probably still all wheel drive but super light. The engineering behind those things is mental.

V02 front is amazeballs, same as v01 rear. the Bridgestone's have a stiffer sidewall than the Metzler so probably soften off your front settings. Can get them to wear sooooooooo nicely all the way down past the wear markers and they don't really drop off the grip that much.

I've been spending some time on my exhaust today. It's been a little neglected since I dropped the bike on T3 a while back.
It ended up pretty squished, but as the bike is tuned to the full Ti Over Racing system, I didn't really want to swap it out.

The first recovery step was to jam the whole thing in a vice and slowly crank it up. Like a tyre going on a rim, a few POP's later and it was pretty well back to shape.
Next I drilled out the rivets holding on the end cap and rotated the end and internals round by 180 degrees.
Although the system was a limited edition run, for R6, I was able to track down a new metal emblem from Japan for $25.

http://i.imgur.com/FWOPYHhl.jpg

After getting rid of the gravel rash with some emery paper and metal polish, I riveted it all back together and here it is:

Yeah, security was deff a consideration for me too. Going interstate is much trickier if the bike and gear is open to the elements etc!
I moved house tho and now have the room for a trailer so the gear stays in there all the time. :thumb:

Quick revalve of the 30mm NIX carts in the racebike. I've not actually worked on any before. I can see why cavitation would potentially be an issue, just looking at the design. But I liked the feel of them on the bike (surprisingly, as I didn't expect to). Except they were under-sprung and over-damped, so nothing like a bit of late-night action before the track day making big changes. Just finished now. Still got a few hours to sleep ;)

They are very very easy to work on! That bit of the design is tops.

Came with a bazzaz zfi unit with qs. We did the 90 deg stuff with the Rearsets and the like. Adjusted it again this morning still didn't work.

Seems to only work short shifting at lower throttle openings/revs. Current suspect is incorrect kill timing per gear based off some talking to people / googling

Binksy
17-11-2015, 11:08 AM
Don't suppose anyone knows what kill timing to run on a bazzaz qs on a 2011 zx10r?

Mr.Ed
17-11-2015, 01:48 PM
Set them back to stock (there's a reset somewhere) and they'll be pretty close I think... I played around with the kill times on the ZX6R and there really wasn't much in it. Shortest I have is 45ms from 5th to 6th I think. Any lower and it becomes a lottery. It sort of works progressively too as in more kill time the lower the gear.. so if you have 1st->2nd at say 50ms, you'll have a bad time.

Marshy

Ah, so there's your problem   :pound:

Seriously though, they usually work fine, right up until the micro switch fails. As Ed said, it sounds like kill times. You shouldn't be too far off with 55ms across the board. maybe up to 65ms in the lower gears and down to 50 in the higher gears. But like Ed said, if there's a reset button, use it!

Marshy

Nice work!! How did you go with the tools?? Are they not all different for 30mm internals?

I had to grind down the teeth on my favourite Ktech cart removal tool (again), but once I'd done that it was same same as normal open carts.

But I discovered today that the changes I made were not good  It was undersprung and overdamped, and I went too far the other way and made it underdamped and oversprung. They seem to be more sensitive to adjustment than other cartridges I've worked on. But they weren't really right before anyway; they were initially too soft but then too harsh in the middle of the stroke, then didn't have enough bottoming resistance. More R&D is needed.... in consultation with our team Superbike Source Racing suspension guru, Rob from Well Sprung Motorcycle Suspension. Rob's on the case for a better shim stack solution. And I reckon I'll split the difference on the spring rate: I went from 1.025 to 1.1, and I think 1.05 or 1.075 would've been better, with the valving doing a better support job.

Reckon I have figured out the issue with the quickshifter. Bike seems to some times lose what gear it's in and the gear indicator (oem in dash) goes blank. Whenever gear position is blank no quickshift I assume as the Bazzaz reads the gear position to use different kill times.

Got NFI why the gear indicator goes blank. Will have to spend some more time checking wiring and perhaps disconnecting the Bazzaz unit entirely to check it out. Maybe see if theres a gear position sensor on it that may need replacing or something??? Not finding much with google which is a tad annoying

Just finished up 3 days at PI and really enjoyed the ZX10 other than the lack of quickshifter. Struggled a bit adapting to the new bike and trusting the front but still got some 44's which i'm pretty pumped with.

I've had this problem on one of the Aprilias. On the RSV4, there's a sensor down near the gear linkage that feeds the gearbox rotational position to the ECU (thus engaged gear). Dunno what the 10R does, but it might be similar.

had a play at expanding the dent out of the link pipe today with some left over liquid nitrogen (-200o)
the plan was to freeze water from either end towards the middle to where the dent is so it will expand, it's currently in the freezer getting harder, if that doesn't work I'll try compressed air and heating it.

You can also see just how good the case saver chain guard worked

Got the fairings installed and threw some stickers on there. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/26/1aead79e3a6456c55e7a5261aedc6b22.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/26/47929a471e5634d106183e65c283f4b3.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/26/4de169a8193d2b88fdade4c3a54305c9.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/26/e5763d6cb4b0c4e274ea4607a8fbf937.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/26/ff1051a981ed777bffc30b7617e52352.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/26/7979d7a07d6eab1729da5e07859d84d0.jpg
And installed a woodcraft key delete to free up some space up front.

Put it all back together and now the bikes running rough sounds like a air leak now to pull it back apart again. [emoji47]

Looks good, Cam. Your forks have progressed.... I think we might have a solution that will make you very happy, but I just need to check some more things first. All going well, next weekend they will be ready.

great news Nick, thanks again for your efforts in finding a *solution* ... can't wait to get them back as well as the fairings ... prob best to pick them up at same time, aye!

I've watched the "sportbiketrackgear" STG in Michigan USA video on the Woodcraft key switch eliminator, looks like it's worth every cent

Will do tomorrow mate its pretty cool how it works. Funny one of the plugs didn't fit 2 pin as apposed to 1 pin but the bike works so not to sure what it does.

Came upon a problem when installing the woodcraft key eliminator one of the plugs would not fit (single pin on the bike and 2 pin on the woodcraft piece) not sure what it does the bike does start its running rough tho sounds as if its sucking air.
