Hey guys could someone confirm if bike needs to be track day ready or race ready (lock wired, shark fin etc?

Just applied for senior ma license and joined st george motorcycle group .. plan to get into some races slowly and do the practice days ( heaps cheaper)

Just wanted to know if i need to have my bike converted from track bike to race bike before going there to ardc days (full lock wired etc)

Some people were saying they don't even have scruitneering at ARDC practice days? Looking at Friday 23 august at the moment , bike just needs lock wiring and shark fin atm ;) .... still got that woodcraft marshy or did mouse take it?

Cheers Guys

Hey Fitzy

yes its true bikes dont get scrutineered, but you do sign the form to indicate your bike is safe when applying. If you can get it done before mate then its better for everyone, especially if you have an off...
It doesnt take much to do - a few holes drilled, install a few covers and a shark fin..

so technically they wont stop you, but it could save you and the other folk out there, and not create unnecessary delays...

cheers little mick for confirming, totally agree seen to many sump plugs go into t1 .. hate to be the one who ruins everyones day. even if i cam aim to have sump plug and oil filter done at least before then .. worry about caliper bolts etc afterwards maybe. already have r and g covers fitted so thats a start :) also have fully belly pan fairing also as bikes in glass. hope lisence comes back so i can get into this august one fingers crossed.

Mouse took the fin, mate. Little Mick has some good advice there.

Calliper bolts are pretty straightforward. Important!! Mark the bolt with liquid paper on the side that you want the hole on, while the bolts are in position and tight on the bike. Then remove the bolts, and just use a high tensile drill bit, keep it lubed, and drill straight through. Easy peasy.

No dramas and thanks marshy great idea about marking them while on bike.. Heaps easier! No dramas about fin .. I will ebay and states for one :)

The K&N oil filters have pre drilled holes and so do Dimple magnetic sump plugs and I'm pretty sure you can buy nuts and bolts with pre drilled holes still trying to track those ones down though.

Pro-bolt make titanium bolts for caliper bolts etc. Verrrrrrrry nice, but exxy (about $100 for a set of caliper bolts). They have holes on every side, so alignment isn't an issue. I have them on my racebike (but not the wet bike).

I just found another shark fin - carbon fibre, brand new. Work of art, this one! The stuff I buy but don't really need is endless.....

Message me if you want it. $80 express posted.

Can anyone confirm that the pinch bolts needs to be done?

Over next week or so looking at getting , sump plug done, oil filter, oil filler cap, radiator cap, front caliper bolts done

I joined St George today and will send off my race lisence and number request tomorrow *fingers crossed 87* says still avaliable ;)

All very new to me at the moment race wise so learning as i go from website and great places like here and rats .. done 20-30 track days and the bug has bit so to speak. Looking forward to the cheap ARDC ride days also .. fingers crossed make the august one this month .. anyone know the cut off date to register please? Heard it was like 3 days before.

Thanks for all your help guys.

I've been running those FLU numbers on my bikes for years. I love the font, and the vinyl is beautifully thick and textured. However they are not the correct font (they are Impact I think, not Arial Rounded MT Bold), and at the Pirelli RR Series round 1 earlier this year I was told they didn't comply and that I'd need to change them for the next round - which is Phillip Island in a few weeks.

St George don't care about the font so much as legibility. If the timekeepers can't read it at 240kmh from the timing room, they get really annoyed with you!

You also officially need a 'number board' - a background, defined by a pinstripe of a certain thickness (it's all in the GCRs). And the background colour reflects your engine capacity. 600s have a white number board with black numbers. Over 750cc has white numbers on a red background. However, it does depend on which race meet you are entering. Again, St George aren't too fussed about number boards and having the correct capacity colours, but FX, ASBK and probably Pirelli do care.

In your case fitzy (what size is your bike again??), you can just whack some black numbers on if it's for St George, and that'll be fine. If you want to properly comply, just grab some wheel rim tape and do some pinstripes to define the number board.

I can cut numbers for anyone that needs them. Complying or non-complying, if you happen to want a groovy font and aren't fussed about eligibility.

Awesome info thanks again! Mine is 750 so I will do as you said and rim tape it as a boarder :)

In my experience most don't have the correct road race font. Ring them before making the trip! Or get marshy to make them

I agree. I have yet to find anything that complies at a bike shop, only dirt bike numbers. If you aren't close to marshy I've found a few of the autoparts stores also do vinyl numbers/signs etc while you wait.

Little Mick

Craig White sells them and I get mine from CJs motorcycles Oak flats as well..

but they have to buy in bulk so they sometimes run out of digits for extended periods

What a gentleman!

I haven't heard back from the ARDC yet. Do they wait till they have the minimum numbers to confirm or should I chase them up?

So keen for $105 track days!

Hey Dan. They usually ring everybody a few days before and let them know whether they have the numbers or not to see if they wish to go ahead.

Little Mick
14-08-2013, 08:15 PM
usually wednesday....

or you can ring then and find out how many they have and rally the troops if they are short...

fitzy
14-08-2013, 08:20 PM
Is the cut off date Wednesday? i am hoping bike will be ready in time. still need to lock wire bike (waiting on bolts from pro bolt hopefully here this week. and then get tyres swapped over if forecast is for dry ( still got wets fitted) .. might have to see you during the week marshy if that's fine or over weekend some time if your free?

Yeah I'm in, just gotta get my bike painted and put back together first! No biggie!

When do you pay and what's the go with a garage? What time does the day kick off? Etc......

senator8
14-08-2013, 09:02 PM
I'm in and plus one as well. I will book if need be on Wednesday.
You pay for a garage when you sign on $25 and usually everyone lobs in or if you're lucky you'll get offers of chipping in. For regulars it all sort of works out "swings and roundabouts"
I take coffee as payment If I arrived first and paid for one. Also we try and get a triple, so two others will also have paid.

Mouse
14-08-2013, 09:26 PM
So will that be the Tarmac Talk pit? More than happy to chip in!! What time do you have to be there? Do bikes usually go out 1st session? I've only done SMSP Ride Days.

senator8
14-08-2013, 09:35 PM
There are no reserved garages and no need, it's not full enough usually. Of recent bikes have been first out.
Gates open 6:30am on practice days and sign on is in the same place, upstairs suite 9 (I think)

Mouse
14-08-2013, 10:05 PM
