Sooooooo, apropos our discussion in the garages about the schedule being too 'car' and not suiting bikes, I've had a go at drafting a new schedule to propose to ARDC for the 11th (and beyond). For those that weren't there, there were only 4 groups, which usually means 5 sessions for everyone, but they decided it would be 4 sessions each but longer sessions. The two before lunch were 20 mins each, and the two after lunch were 25 mins each. We would rather have more, shorter sessions, so the attached gives bikes 6 x 15 min sessions, for exactly the same overall track minutes (90 mins) as the cars.
Thoughts?? Does anyone have a copy of the schedule from the other day? My day finishes at 3:45.... I'm not sure what they had to fill the time.
Edit: Document to follow shortly....

Happy with what you propose mate, alot less sitting around. The only issue I can see is that they often change the number of groups and schedule, it never seems to be the same but when they do we are usually the ones to suffer.

I was a fan of the longer sessions. Also not a fan of only having 4 sessions... this means i love track time, was this at all helpful? lololol In all honesty tho, the 20 minutes sessions were tops, 25s maybe a touch too long.

ARDC just called me, and they are going to try out our new schedule!!!! They are finalising it now, and will email me a copy soon. They are seeking feedback (by email to reception@ardc.com.au) on the new schedule, whereby bikes get more, more frequent, shorter sessions. In other words, it's not just my view that is important. But you only get to comment if you actually attend! ;)

Our watches are in sync.
So in the last session today, I was banging out 38.8s, feeling pretty good about my place in the world, and then Damo Cudlin shot past me and tucked in in front of me, looking over his shoulder with a 'follow me' look. I latched on, and in the one and only flying lap, dropped 1.5 SECONDS!!! and banged out a 37.3 (including stuffing up T9 and sorting ourselves out in T1). Fark me.
I thanked him profusely afterwards, and he just said 'did that help? You were looking good in some areas but I thought I could help you in a few other areas'.
Thanks Damo! Much appreciated mate :)

Thanks Steve!! I've finally got the confidence back on the bike now. I'm still a ways off my PB of 36.1, but I can see the light again now, so I know it's not far away. Now I just need to figure out what the hell I did differently behind Damo to be (rolling lap time) 2 secs quicker than any other lap all day!
Damo was coaching two other guys yesterday, but had been watching me for a couple of laps apparently, and just decided to jump in front and give me a hand. The first I knew about it was when he appeared in front of me in T1!! Awesome guy. It's just fantastic that he thinks like that. Glenn too. And of course Alex Cudlin, who was also there helping Wolfie out for the day (we all had lunch together). Top guys, the Cudlins.

Nick, did you try a dunlop rear? If so which one did you settle on?
Not yet; they haven't arrived from Melbourne yet. That was a Bridgestone, new in the morning, but very ready to be flipped by mid-afternoon. If I'd been more organised, I'd've fitted a different rim and saved the tyre until I could flip it, as the left side is very 2nd hand now. We actually got a lot of laps yesterday, and the 6 session thing was GOLD!
Stevem, you're running Dunlop now, right? What rears do you use? Kris and I were thinking that we might be losing out on some laptime on the V02s. Awesome down to 38s, but maybe we need a different rear to (more easily) drop some more laptime. Keen for your thoughts :)
Nice one! Good work on the V02 rear then. Maybe I need to swap out the tyre - Ive been using it since March at ASBK Wakefield :banplease: :banplease: like you said - doesnt wear
PS: you need to clean up your AIM sectors ;) Duplicate the EC sector spots and youll get more accurate timing in AIM

No, but over time you lose laptime and can't work out where it's gone.
PS: you need to clean up your AIM sectors ;)
That was a clean install of AIM on my home computer, just so I could look at the data last night. I've just got the track laptop out and am looking at that now, with the sorted out sectors etc.
Thanks tho! ;)

I have been running the Dunlop H886 (#4) . I ran them in the first round of FX and all year. It is the harder of the dunlops they bring to Oz. The one to be on is H998 (#2). They are the control tyre for ASBK and they didn't have enough to sell during the year although Simon Galloway has been on them.If you can't get the 2's and it is hot enough ( at least +30 track temp) the Yamaha boys tested the 133 soft and found them a close second to the 2's. I did a back to back one day and did a 135.1 on the Dunlop 4 and the VO2 . The 4's I have run down till the dot was gone and done 35's and that is after it was flipped. The fronts I have run the 302 (4 Hard) and the 343 (3 softer) and can't fault either of them . I used the 343 in the colder months and not in summer.
Was that software AIM Nick. I might load mine up .

Was that software AIM Nick. I might load mine up .
Thanks mate; that's exactly what i needed. Dunlop said they didn't have any 886s, so the other day I just guessed and ordered 2 of the 998s (#2) and 2 of the 677s (#3), which arrived today. Thought I'd try them both and see. I really like the V02 rears, so it's just a test to see. I also think that I'm leaving the V02 rears on for too many days, as they don't fully wear out if you flip them regularly. And they just get gradually slower over time. If they wore out as quickly as, say, a Pirelli, they'd never get old enough to slow down ;)

I need to do the same RE AIM sector spots, I really need to learn how to do analysis on it so I can see where I am faster.

I only own a mac, so I need to buy a pc. I guess then it goes from a lie detector to a useful tool to learn how to go faster with.

Expect to get checked family member on staff tells me yesterday.
ARDC days looking better by far now.

Very cool. Interesting to note that after the lap following you were 8/10 slower than the one following. Maybe just the red mist and determination of trying to keep with him. Overlaying your data with obviously show you where you made time. Great work!

Mind letting us know what pressures you've been running with your V02's Nick? Everyone I talk to seem to run completely different pressures.

I run the AIM software on the mac with a virtual machine, no problems.

I think it's largely that different bikes seem to like different things with the VO2's.
Marshy I belive is 25 or 26 on the Aprilia whereas I have ended up at 27-28 on the BMW.
Dave Moss wrote a good review on tuning tyre pressures and carcas temp, specifically on the VO2's and their wear...

I run,34f 23R (hot off warmers) on the vo2s / RSV4, seems pretty good for me atm,

I ran the VO2 rear 24 hot off the warmers. The Dunlops I run 32 front, 19 rear off the warmers and can try 19-21 as in I would go harder rather than less.

Nice vid Marshy, awesome time. Makes a huge difference being able to follow (*chase) someone quicker. Had a similar thing last trackday, dropping almost 2 seconds by purely having another quick 600 as a target.
I'm saving that video just to re-watch Damien's riding and the accuracy of his lines. Just awesome :D

So I've experimented with rear pressures a LOT recently, and I find it all boils down to the temperature (track temp, ambient temp, and tyre temp after a run). As a guide, 23 works really well when it's cold, and I run up to 26 as it gets hotter. I feel the rear as soon as I come in, and if it's not hot enough I drop the pressure a little bit, and if it's too hot, bump up the pressure. At Broadford (Wakey is the same), I was running it even lower in the mornings to get the left side of the tyre to turn on. At the Creek the other day I was at 25.5 (warm track but cool/cold wind, especially earlier on).
I do the same now with the front. At PI in the cold, I couldn't get a soft Bridgestone to generate any heat at all, even with low pressures like 30, so switching back to the Dunlop and running it down at 30 hot and it was magic. Broadford was about 31-32 to get it properly turned on (morning/afternoon). At the Creek tho, I run them mostly at 34, unless it's really cold. The front generates heaps of heat there in most conditions.

By feel the tyres? Are you just going for a hot Sticky feel? I know what cold tyres feel like but not hot?
I've just order a digital temp gauge so I can accurately record track, tyre temps ect, in an effort to document and improve. What's a good running temp (end of session say) for the VO2s

Somewhere between "that's not really very hot" and "oh fudge, that's hot!!"
I just feel it with my palm. The tyre is too hot when it's painful to touch. You quickly get the feel for whether it's too hot or too cold. I have no idea what temperature that equates to.... I have a gauge too but I never use it for tyre temp (probably should tho!).

Ahhh cool. Well play the "how hot is Marshy touching" game on the 25th and I'll let you know.

PS: you need to clean up your AIM sectors ;) Duplicate the EC sector spots and youll get more accurate timing in AIM
I've been running data and cleaning up stuff (and discovered that the theoretical best lap data came from one session of two laps, where it looked like the gps data was out of sync, and so not to be trusted), and I'm not sure that I'm comparing apples with apples. Kris, are you able to email me your map? So I can compare sectors properly?

I had a quick look at mine and noticed the gps data seemed out of wack. T1 mid corner it shows 179 where my speedo is showing 208. Checking the revs and gearing on gearing commander it seems the speedo is right.
If im honest I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to Aim software.

I'm only a little better, Steve. Kris is an expert!
Sometimes my squiggles don't line up, even though I have 'loaded the map for the currently open tests', so they should be the same.
TBH, I don't really know either. The more time I spend, the more I doubt some of the data. Clearly it's my lack of understanding, rather than an inherent flaw in the device, but I'm not quite sure how to improve....

Dunno what is going on with a V02 front soft at PI for you Nick. Mine was toasty running 33 psi off warmers and returning at 33psi after the session when we were there with St George in the middle of winter. Plenty of grip too, nice wear pattern etc.

I know a lot of guys love them. Hell, I've recommended them to people! Dunno why it didn't work for me, or at ASBK/WSBK in Feb. Same at Broadford. Very odd.
Maybe I'm just soooo fast that the front wheel isn't on the ground very much??
