Not 100% sure what's the build will entail. I'll hit nick up for some race glass. Each own fairing on these things is about 4k hence the 26k repair bill. Hopefully flog off some and re coup some $$$.
I'll Prob do rear sets and need to chase up some wet rims, Then I've got about 3days of reading all about it. It's crazy what its supposed to be able to do.

I hope I like it. Haven't ever ridden an R1 as of yet..... Lol

There's plenty to play with out of the box! I wasn't a massive fan of the stock brakes but a wee chat with Michael Blair and he tells me the first thing they did was rip out the ABS and it now works a treat.
The electronics are HEAPS of fun to play with. Start with them fully dialled in and grab a handfull anywhere!!
You'll probably find it feels and handles smallish like the Aprilia does but with electronics dialled all but out, it's a flippin missile!!
Do you know if it's had the re-call done?

Just Picked it up. Wow!!! It sounds awesome and the damage is less than I thought.

Looking closer at the damage as far as I can see is.
Right frame slider broken, I'll replace
Scratches to-
right side fairings.
right front break caliper,
front wheel,
engine case saver,
exhaust carbon cover,
And Rear hugger.
None of which I'll replace apart from the case savers and glass.

Just noticed there's no nelly pan on the OEM fairings.... And the read sets have no adjustability, pretty poor for a 30k+ bike

Oh and it'll take me a hr to clean off the statutory right off stickers crap...

Spent a fair bit of time reading this weekend, so much to take in I'll need to re read it again and again. Had a play with Yamaha's on line simulation pretty cool.
http://www.yamahamotorsports.com/sport/meter/yzf-r1_multi-function_meter_simulator/html/index_r1m.html

Installed the data logger in place of the pillion seat. The tires are shot so I'm getting a set of VO2. ( sorry Nick your Cheeper but I felt for the guy in the shop who's had the bike since before new year) who I pestered continually about the assessor and what he might do with it. so I ordered some off him.

I recon I'll run initially with the suspension set to A1 basically set to automatic adjustment for track riding with slicks, adjust a few times a second !!!!
Looking at the manual suspension settings wow!!! So simple to adjust and save different combinations.
The slide control will be interesting I'll dial that out so its only moderately effective, I'm not at the stage of backing it in where I'd need it off. Yet

Race glass design is next, and then I'll see about stripping off some of the road gear before I give it a crack at WP on the 15th.

Excited much !!!! Yes I am

Basically ready for a run now, just need some GN crash protection and fit new slicks.
Removed the mirrors, rear fender/ lights pillion pegs, frame sliders and the previous owners Rossi flu-row yellow stickers .
I'll need to tap a thread in the stock gear lever to switch it into GP shift but I'll do that tomorrow

Took it for a quick ride around the workshop drive way, just in 1st gear, position is nice feel small enough that I reccon it'll suit me.
I did notice that it seem to turn far easier than the Aprilia and CBR?? To a point where it felt strange at 1st. Not a bad thing at all, but is this common with the yamahas compared to others? I've not ridden a Yamaha before.

Oh and gave it a wash

So the bikes off getting the gear box recall down and I'm playing with the data logger, eventually worked out I need an iPad to run it so that's sorted. Looking at the data Yamaha supply from SMSP has got me thinking about gearing. From the data looks like the test rider was taking T2 in 1st, leading me to believe that the stock gearing as always needs a tweak.

Is anyone running a newer R1? What gearing are you running. I'll most likely order a 520 chain and the standard -1 +2 chuck that on and see how it goes. I'll leave it stock, till after WP.

Here's a few screen shots of the system when looking at a single lap
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160310/389aaec01821f7a9a9bf8175d2bdacb3.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160310/13e98bbda55bf4430d1812edae165848.jpg
It's also got the ability to over lap two at a time, seems pretty easy to use in the pits straight after a session

Had a tops day today at WP very laid back. The re surfacing was great. We booked into green (based on EC) and they merged it with novice.... So there was a bit of passing to do, but all good I need the practice.

Took me a session or to to get into the groove on the new bike. Ended up getting down to 108s not super fast but better than my previous 111/2s.
The bike performed fantastic. Smooth and heaps of power. Managed to get the GPS data working after a few initial set up issues. Reading deeper into it I was only really engaging the slide control exiting T2 and occasionally T10. And rear abs In a few places. Pretty sure it applies the rear when hard on the front.( but I'll look into that ) I could feel the lift control kicking in down the straight but it didnt show on the iPad.
Basically it looks like I need to go harder to get the electronics working... but all in time.

Ran a soft rear because of a f#%kup with tyres late on Monday. Apart from wearing very quick I loved it. If money was no option is run it all the time.

Chucked a cable tie on the front forth just to see the travel. With the settings on A1 (automatic track riding w-slicks) it looked like I was on the stoppers by the 2nd last session. Couldn't feel it on track though, it felt great. On the automatic setting you can adjust it in increments of +5 or -5 from the pre set. But again I'll need to read up that a bit more and see what the deal is.

All in all it was awesome, think I'll keep it... Lol

Race Render is supposed to be pretty good, I think Lawson uses it. http://racerender.com/Products/index.html
I don't often do data overlay to be honest. My bro wrote a program that converts AIM channels data to a chroma key video you can overlay.
I think he was going to make it web based at some stage but I'm not sure if that's happened yet.

He did make a .csv to .kml converter that will convert single laps, exported from Race Studio, to Google Earth plots.
You can rename as well as change colour and line width before downloading the file.

Watching the video, it still amazes me they released it without auto-blip. It's such a relatively simple addition, and I gotta say that it's exactly like a quickshifter was in the beginning: once you've used a bike with auto-blip, you just can't go back!

Do the Aprilias have them? I dream of one day having an auto blipper! I can't blip the throttle while braking to save my life. Always end up modulating lever pressure as I try start and pogoing back and forth.

Nope, not standard, but my special one with the kit electronics does. Bloody awesome!! I got used to it on the '15 Beemer, and then got lucky with the Ape already having it fitted. You can buy a Starlane one for the Ape, too.

I've never been able to blip! Years ago I just stopped trying (same issue... if I blip I let go of the brake - I must be really unco!), and just put up with it being clunky. Then slipper clutches came out, and it got a bit better. Now, not using the clutch at all is awesome!! When I jump on the wet bike (without auto-blip), I get all confused and can't change down.

Yep that's my issue struggling to blip, and break at the same time mostly into T2 at EC but if the option is there why not, one less thing to worry about.

Nick how are you getting auto blip without the shift rod sensor ???

Marshy

Nick how are you getting auto blip without the shift rod sensor ???

It's got the sensor, I assume. The one on the old APX bike has a custom-looking sensor (which doesn't auto-blip), but the RF has a sensor that looks identical to the stock black one, but works both ways.

Na, that sensor doesnt auto blip, the only one Aprilia sell is a small red one, it has Aviorace written on it. They supply all the APX pot sensors. Theres also a modified gearbox sensor with different wiring that goes into the engine.

The easy way to tell if you have some kinda special setup, is open the Palm, go into GEAR and check if its SET, ONLYPOT or LOAD

Ive no idea :) but you can absolutely use the OEM sensor without the clutch to go up gears, it will move the revs slightly but thats not the blip. Have a look at your Palm and see whats in there - maybe you have some kinda wackky thing that auto blips :)

Check whats in your palm, that will tell you for good but my discussions with the wogs say only the little red sensor does it combined with the 360degree gearbox pot.

Youll also know visually because your black box would connect into a Deutsch Autosport connector near the water pump (and not the 2 pin connector up near the airbox)

You can rename as well as change colour and line width before downloading the file.

or did rather when I used to ride bikes. it is pretty easy to use & you can sync up multiple camera's plus overlays etc.

as a pure video editing piece of software it is pretty handy as well. much faster than movie maker

So unfortunately my new sprockets won't arrive until Friday, and I'm still waiting on the auto blip from the States, Hopefully it's fully sorted by the 27th as I've got a date with Alex Cudlin.

Picked up the bike today from Rob fitted up with a new rear spring and a few base line settings stored manually into the electronic suspension, ready for a run on Friday. It was the 1st time I'd played with it ( when I dropped it off) I was amassed how well it worked. We set up a full soft and a full hard preset, and it just worked!!! So quick and easy.

I've also finished fitting some bonamici rearsets, GB crash protection and started race prep.

I picked up one of Breezys handle bar controls, but I won't fit that up until I get the race glass and strip off the rest of the street kit.

Im spewing about the gearing it really needs it especially if they stick with the full circuit for Friday.

Cheers

But on another note I dropped a tooth on the front before ARDC. Still needs a bit more so I've got a 520 chain 43 rear. I'm just not sure if -1 +2 will be a bit much, so I've ordered a 42 rear as well.
Not going to go any gearing till after the next two rides days coming up, and I get a bit more comfortable on the bike.

I've got Clipons and a motion pro Quick action throttle that hadn't been installed yet, and spare rear sets in the kit.

The GPS data logger took a beating, but may still function. If not I won't be replacing it any time soon there about $2500 OEM.... It's a fun app to play with but not worth that amount of coin. Tank has a couple of dings but won't effect function, the bike had no obvious fluid leaks, and apart from the listed "looks" OK

Ahhh she was so pretty[emoji45][emoji45][emoji45]

Front stay on. Dash in and works! Still a tone of sensors and stuff to mount to it.
Made up a alloy platform for the battery as the OEM plastic one was goooonnnnne.
I'll need to make up a few more brackets for the batterie, and GPS gizmos and too reinforce under the seat.
Motion pro fitted ( Ta.) I was surprised at the good condition of the air filter, a new ones on order but was good enough to start her up....love that sound

Whoohoo getting there.

Plumb , gearing commander is really good for working out gearing for each corner if you know the speed you carry thru each corner.

So working on the front race stay, the OEM intake was a two peice section that held a ??diaphragm in place. The new is a single piece with no preset positions.

1st question what does this gear actually do? It's connected to a fuel cut off solenoid and a tank surge.
OEM part lay out
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160602/2cb3bb0522e5b73578ee264bbfb49ddd.jpg
It's pretty easy to fit it up to the intake, if I install the diaphragm at the front of the new intake is that going to restrict the air flow at all? Will it serve its actual purpose?

The zx10 had one for EPA noise stuff, connected to a flap on the intake.
I removed the hardware, but left the electrical nonsense so not to put any codes up.
Not sure if that help

Interesting... The R6 has intake temp and pressure sensors on it's intake, I wonder if it's something along those lines?
What is part #7 called?

Ruckos87
02-06-2016, 07:45 PM
Part 3 is a air temp sensor. That position was cast into the intake on the stay. The fact that there nothing cast for this other gear has me thinking Lee might be on to something. Maybe it's not needed for a race bike?
But I e really got no idea what ist for.

Yeah, I think that's right, it's for the intake flapper. It will probably chuck an error but you'll want max air at all times so no need for it.

Consensus is its needs to go. Hopefully I'll get that and rear sets sorted on Wednesday. Then levers and it should be good for a fairing less test ride around the estate at work.

Rear sets on, order a couple of spares so they can go back in the kit. Tomorrow Ive got to make up a bracket to hold the Gryo in place, oem it's under the battery but I'll mount it on top cause its easer.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160608/31814f3f17f3f485afb01b201eda35f3.jpg
The front stay is now complete with the epa gear removed. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160608/211f0c34d8276f838b0f4898c82c5e17.jpg and no error codes!!

I've been looking at the tank, and although I have a tank cover to go over it I've been thinking about trying to pop it back out with compressed air. It's pretty soft, and should be a simple as hooking air up to the vent line (blocking off the others) and slowly increasing the pressure, I might slightly warm the tank 1st. It's so soft it might just pop back out.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160608/574cb5652c6e969940804ac8bf671afe.jpg

Anyone see and obvious issues with this?

Tested out all the fancy settings and couldn't drill down into the main menu. I also has an error code and a front shock symbol. Looking further into it I found one of 4 wires from the electronic suspension had been severed.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160608/83336c1d03d2f5cbf4b31416db4ca512.jpg
So soldered it up, and low and behold the menu worked and the error code disappeared. Peewww was sweating bullets for a bit there.

Nice progress, Luke!! Great work on finding the suspension issue too!
Can't see why the air wouldn't work. Can you seal it up to withstand that pressure?

Finished off all the other bits n pieces and fitted a temporary seat ready for a test ride

the bike rides well, straight and no error codes, God I do love this bike,
The fork will need a bit of love, as will both of the front rims actually, must have been from the initial road drop, so ill pull them out, if i can get them back for the 29th.

Oh and a Vid, because Nicks clearly still at work:whip::whip::whip:

Quick question, I'm assuming I'll need to drill out the two break away bolts to get the ignition Barrel out, so I can take the triple with the forks for Straighting?

No easer way to do it????The wiring is run up through the frame and looks the be a pain in the ass to locate and disconnect.

you could try to dremel a screwdriver slot in the head of the screw, heat up the screw to melt the loctite and try and unscrew it

+1 for Mark's method. I got that to work on the R6.
Drill and easy out is another method, I had to resort to angle grinder on the BMW but there was enough space away from electrics etc.
