Well, I just entered. I am still waiting on my MA license to come through, but form is in and money is paid. I've entered unlimited clubsport on the R1.

Couple of questions regarding numbers, I picked a 3 digit number comprising my nieces b'days, 27th and 2nd, so I got 272, well asked for it? What are the rules regarding number boards and colours for numbers? Do I simply order them from St George? Is plain white contact or something enough on the front and ducktail to put the numbers on?

Jebus, I have no idea...

Go easy on me!

You can get race numbers from many bike shops. For an R1 you will need White numbers on red background. Front and rear. But wait till your number is confirmed just in case it's reserved by someone else ( pretty unlikely).

14. RIDING NUMBERS
14.1 Final riding numbers will be notified with final instructions. Numbers are available for sale from the Race Secretary if required.
14.2 Competitors will be allocated their riding number as per the requirements of St. George MCC or their preferred riding number,
if entry is received by the early bird discount date.
14.3 All machines numbers and plates must comply with the MoMS.
Front numbers to be positioned centre (if possible) or towards the riders left of the number plate for the North and GP Circuits and riders right for the South circuit.

hopefully you also include turning left...

its actually a flip flop so watch a few of the boys lines on youtube etc to get a feel for it. its been a while since I rode it (not rushing back for the enjoyment), but from memory there was a bump coming out that tended to pop the front ...

treat it as a practice day through there till you have made your way around a few times and know where the track is at. Then go racing!!

Yeah just watched a few. The flop part looks pretty off camber? Never quite sure with action cam fish eye lenses though. Guessing you have to be a bit careful with the power there.

I quite like the North Circuit to be honest. Did as Little Mick said the first time, took it easy for practice and wound it up gradually once I'd worked out some lines and where the grip was.

It's actually really good fun I reckon, a nice change up. Certainly wouldn't que up to go there all the time but once a year is great fun. Good fast circuit and you can really get stuck into the throttle out of the flip flop.

Marshy

Exactly right! The flip is actually more on camber and grippier than it first appears, so you can go in pretty hard. But the flop is off camber and not very grippy. And there's a slight ridge just as you're asking for full throttle as you are coming back onto the T9 track, and there have been a number of serious accidents there. So be careful!

Bloody hate T10 already, don't know how I'm gonna feel coming in a gear higher lol

There are a few different lines through there, (but not much room to pass) so if you mess it up, it's not too big of a deal. As Marshy said, the left hander you can go in heaps faster than you think as you wash off speed tipping in and then when you hit the uphill. Just don't be ham fisted with the throttle over the crest and you'll be fine.

Yeah, but that's only looking at Sunday. Most people do the Saturday (north circuit) too. Which then makes it $580 for 60 laps. Including two bike spots (half a garage). Plus separate warm up and qualifying sessions.

But I look at it much more about how many 'at bats' you get (times on track) rather than race laps.... my view is that I'd much rather be on the bike 10 times in a day for 5 laps each than 4 times in a day and do 12 laps each time. Same number of laps, but - for me at least - much much much more enjoyment out of more sessions. Which is the downside of ASBK; it's much more like WSBK or MotoGP - there are fewer, much longer sessions (practice and racing), which I don't like nearly as much as having lots of starts/sessions/finishes etc.

Speaking of expensive... the last FX round: one day of racing, $455 entry (one class), plus $180 for two bike spots. Dunno how many races (3? 4?) or race laps (7? 8?), but when you've paid $635 for a single day, there'd need to be a LOT of race laps to make it as good value for money.

FX schedule for Friday/Sat events

Rd7 will be a two day Friday and Saturday day/night event, estimated finish time for both days is 8pm it will be still light until
8.30pm.
Friday’s schedule: Superbike will receive 2 x 15 minute timed practice sessions and 1 x 20 minute qualifying session. All other
classes will receive 2 x 15 minute qualifying sessions and 2 races. Friday’s schedule is depending on circumstances such as weather
etc or if qualifying sessions are split.
Saturday all classes will receive 3 races.

Edit: Races are 6 lappers for Pro twins, Formula Oz and FX C & D grade. So $545 for 30 laps.... if you enter 1 class and aren't Marshy needing 20 garage spots for 1 class :P

Marshy

All track time is expensive, unfortunately. It didn't used to be that way, but with no other tracks in Sydney, ARDC have a monopoly, massive demand, and free reign to set sky-high prices. It's $22k per day (on a weekend), plus mandatory cleaning and security ($5k for two days) to hire the track, so a two-day weekend is minimum $50k. St George's costs from last year were almost $75k for the weekend (medical, printing, office stuff, flaggies lunches, etc etc). If they get 150 riders, that's $500 each. If they don't (and don't count cross-entries in the numbers, because they aren't full-fare, so to speak), then the club wears the loss.

FX subsidises the costs with revenue from sponsorship, advertising, and a cut of Dunlop's action (plus other businesses that might want to spruik their wares).

But any way you cut it, it's an expensive activity!

Marshy
19-10-2015, 07:12 PM

Can't remember.... Less than St George/FX, but not much less, from memory. Factor in the garage, and it was pretty similar. That's cross-entering also.

The cost of hiring Phillip Island for Prestons two years ago was $36k for the two days. Dunno what other expenses they incurred, but that was what they paid PI circuit. So a fair whack cheaper than 2 days at the Creek, but still not loose change....

Yeah, it's an ARDC Private Practice.

Speaking of which, ARDC just chased me with the customary prompt for bike registrations. There are 5 already (and I'm about to send mine in), so I'm sure there'll be no shortage of numbers, but get 'em in anyway folks! It's not like you're not gonna turn up even if the weather looks a bit iffy. And it makes the registration process much easier if you've already paid.

Just heard from Jan that Formulas 3-5 have been moved from BEARS to 400 race as 400's only had 9 and they were worried about lap time differentials in BEARS.

She's getting loads of late entries which is good as she reckons they haven't taken enough cash to pay for the track hire yet!

Hahah, the most nervous I was was actually at the drags, the first time I was back on the bike. After I worked out what I was doing wrong tho, it's been fine.
I was cheering under the helmet at the start of the PI races!! :thumb:
Unfortunately I'm not racing next weekend tho. Totally out of cash, having paid through the nose for a trip to UK over Christmas and NY.
I'll be there on Monday and Friday and hanging around for the race days. Will be back in for round 1/2 tho!!

Ha ha

Yeah Jan rang me with the bad news (wanted to do double duty BEARS F5 and TwinSprints)

A Quick look at the list sees at least me and the Club Prez in F5 + 3 F4 dinosaurs and 2 F3s

So Kimbo you going to run the 400 and do some blocking for me :)

You still on the rebuild from Wakefield Cam? Didn't realise your stack was that bad :(

yea mate, the frame was bent, swing arm bent, wheels bent, forks bent ... i was bent lol ....

engine oil cover was cracked (right side, in front of clutch cover) top triple bent, lower triple smashed, clip-ons stuffed, lost the front reservoir, forks were ground off at the top clickers, cluster/dash cracked/damaged, fairings stuffed, tank damaged, sub frame bent, just everything was bent.
it's all been straightened now, got another pair of forks from Tristan, waiting for Marshy to mod the internals.

it's a slow process when you dun have factory backing (sigh)

sorry to hear about Kanga ... never good to hear the chopper ...

My weekend went a bit pair shaped (for Bears only the first 2 races of each day counted)

Lead F5 by 1 pt
Race one - great start and pushed past my rival down into turn 4 but was passed on the straight and never got back in touch

Now 4pt down
Race two - out on warm up an realized I hadn't refuelled tossed up hoping and riding slow but decided pit lane and second was best (was a bit speedy in to pits and through the lane ... got away with it) despite the slow lap times was one of the rides of my life on a (slightly damp - nah just in the head - track) passing 7 guys in 5 laps including my competition out of old 10 into 11 on the last lap (but then came the straight and I lost 2 of those places)

Now 9pt and need to win the first 2 GP legs
Race 3 (Race 1 Sunday) - Got him into 4 again (turning left this time) but got caught into turn 1 - had been a BUGGER all weekend for me and was way down on speed there, front kept walking sideways ... after he passed a couple of 300s I got stuck and that was that championship over (ignoring DNF)

Now 14pt down
Race 4 went to refuel and KEY WAS NOT IN THE IGNITION - hauled the spare bike off the trailer after the gate closed but could get it running in time (note to self spare bike only useful if battery is charged) - despite empting all tool box and even going through 2 garbage bins I have not found the key - don't know what happened to it .... I never take the key out except to refuel and then its locked in the cap lock and back to ignition ... I'm at a buggered if some one found a key let me know as it will save me a new transponder chip and locksmith to open tank

Finally got a indication of HP of the other bike
Me 700cc and 72Hp
Him 900cc and 89Hp and then they did engine work and made it faster - need to build a bigger long track bike ... need a 2001 - 2004 904 Monster or SS motor (have the rest...)

Wow, what a fun bloody day on track! I can't believe I left it so long to have a go! Great to meet a few more of the blokes from on here.

Few things I worked out from the day;

1. I have absolutely no idea on how to race launch a motorcycle. Race 1, took off like a teenage girl on facebook at a set of traffic lights. Race 2, two wheelies and a false neutral. Race 3, had it sitting on the friction point at about 7 thou, bike crept forward, jump start 10 second penalty.

2. What a friendly, great bunch of people that are into this racing thing.

3. If your knee slider comes off on the first lap, continuing to ride for the rest of the race makes lefthanders bloody hard. Once I dabbed it down a couple of times, I ended up not using my knee at all, it really makes a couple of the corners scary. It also makes a fucking mess:

http://i.imgur.com/mNJBDJz.jpg

4. I'm hooked.

5. PB! 1:41.56 something... in race one! SO happy with that! I was hoping to get to 1:40s in the next couple of races, but no knee slider, then spots of rain in the last race meant it wasn't to be.

Cheers fellas, and thanks for everyones friendly faces that took a lot of the nerves and stress away.

Nath

PS; hope Kanga recovers well, nasty place to go down.

Was a fun weekend and a reasonably fitting farewell to the R6 getting 1st C grade 600 clubsport and 2nd 600cc C grade Saturday then 2nd 600cc clubsport for Sunday. Still unsure why someone found the need to bounce off me on the back straight on the way through...

Considering all the really close and fun racing I've been doing with Rodney, Keith, Carl, Steve, Tom, Rob and Craig all year long it was kinda scary seeing what the extra ring in's we had at Sydney get up to on track.

Bring on the thousand for next year :D

What a weekend! My first St George meet went about 1000x better than expected. Cross entering in 600cc and 600 Clubsport meant plenty of races, and thankfully the results are now up on Natsoft because they all blend together in my memory.

Saturday was fun having never ridden North Circuit before. Love the flip-flop. Ended up with 2nd in 600 Clubsport D-grade and 3rd 600cc D-grade.

Having previously only managed 1:45's at my last GP circuit track day, I was fully expecting to be sitting mid-to rear of the pack on Sunday. Seems that throwing me in a race with some of you quick blokes provided sufficient motivation to drop 5 seconds off my PB, nailing a few 1:40 lap times over Sunday. Managed to stay infront of Rob to end up with 1st in both 600cc and 600 Cubsport D-grade.

I look forward to the full series next year.

Hey guys still alive and kicking. Won't be riding for a while yet though. Bunged up ankle and wrist but hopefully won't be anything lasting. Hope everyone had a better weekend then I did!

This is the first race on Sunday. With some dodgy editing at the start.

Good to hear from you, Mick. I hate to say it, but in a nice return to old form, yours was the only significant stoppage and injury of the weekend. Bummer that it happened to you :( But good for the rest of us that there weren't a series of incidents ;)

Nah Good to hear, I was down watching in November last year. Glad I didn't start the ball rolling for another one of those weekends!

Heal up strong Kanga. Glad you weren't smashed up too bad.
